We made it IN THREE DAYS!!! Now let's hit some stretch goals!!
This campaign funded in THREE days which absolutely humbles me.
LET'S KEEP GOING!!!
The most enjoyable part of this has been connecting with people through music. Which, if you watch my video, you can see has always been something special to me. I want to use this Kickstarter opportunity to continue finding people to share with! :)
I set this campaign with a bare-bones goal of $2,900 needed to complete the project, because...with Kickstarter...you get nothing if you miss your goal. And as you'll see in the video I mention that if I were to reach $4,000 I can pay my graphic designer and photographer what their talents deserve. So, if you are looking at this campaign and I have reached or exceeded that goal, please keep in mind that the true cost for producing this project is thousands more than my original goal, I just thought it best to keep the goal modest and attainable and exceed rather than come up short! :) But if there is demand for the music (and some of the rewards)...and I can break even AND pay my team, that would be outstanding! I could feel this record is "a success" from the very first pressing! :) And it will motivate me to keep being creative!
And finding new fans in 2014 with Singer-songwriter stuff is all but impossible so let's KEEP MOVING FORWARD! :)
THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH for your support.
WHO I AM:
I am a music junkie.
I have been a full time professional musician for 14 years. For 10 of those years I have been performing full time at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
I play at Jellyrolls on The Boardwalk.
(I'm also someone who talks too much and uses WAY too many smiley face emoticons. :))
I have been writing and recording songs since I was a teen. I have always wanted to be creative with music, express myself and connect with people through my songs. I have slowly built up an audience over the years, and I am grateful and excited to be heard!
The following little reel gives a bit more of my personality, my passion for music and what I have accomplished (so far). But if you don't get a chance to watch it all I understand. It IS 11 minutes long! :)
(I don't know why ads pop up! I can't get rid of them! Sorry!)
I have previously released two original albums, Stolen Season and Chasing Magic, as well as one album with my family band, Kindred Saint.
I have also accomplished one of my dreams and enjoyed a side career writing for others. A couple dozen of my songs have been covered by other bands, most notably the melodic rock bands, Far Cry & Tango Down.
I currently have over 100 songs published with BMI.
I make my living with music. I live for music. I am always trying to discover new music. Music is time travel. Nothing else can take us back to specific moments and emotions in our lives like music can.
Music is magic.
Like I said- I'm a junkie. :)
THE NEW PROJECT:
I am SO very excited about the new album. This is the most well rounded project I have ever done. It touches on all the kinds of music I am known for and more. There are some melodic rock songs, some acoustic songs, a couple piano ballads, and a couple of tunes in a new direction.
I am growing. :)
Nothing I have ever done has sounded sonically better or been more lyrically rich or musically diverse than this album. The common thread in this record is it all came from my head and my heart.
I am very proud of all of these songs.
It's some of the best stuff I have written in my life.
Take a listen so you can hear what you are helping to support!

THE REASON I AM ON KICKSTARTER:
I have worked hard on this album and I believe in it. But the process of getting music from a studio to a physical CD to share with the world can be costly. I have brought it as far as I can on my own, but I have found myself coming up short with the last couple steps.
Here is the budget for the little bit further I still have to go to make a professional looking and sounding product that can compete in a market place with a zillion other artists who have tens of thousand if not hundreds of thousands of dollars behind them!
$1500 CD duplication
$500 Graphic design and photography
$300 Taxes, Kickstarter and Amazon fees.
I believe my budget is VERY modest. This is not the full cost of these items, nor is this the full cost of what it takes to make a record. It's just how (maddeningly) close I am to completing my project and releasing it.
This is the bare-bones budget. I left many things out because, let's face it, I should be the one footing the bill for everything. And I have already invested alot to get us this far. But I think you will see in the Rewards section that I am doing my best to make this campaign more about sharing music and giving back to those of you who choose to support me than it is about me trying to get all I can from people for next to nothing in return. :)
Note: Kickstarter is an "all or nothing" arrangement. If we don't raise the $2900 goal, then no money changes hands, I get nothing (neither do you), and this record will take longer to finish. So, please keep that in mind when considering whether to contribute to the campaign. Every level of participation matters.
I wanted to briefly mention something while we are on the subject of the money. If you look at the budget you will see that my graphic designer and photographer are doing work on this project for dirt cheap. They are giving me the drastic "friends and family" discount. This is their way of contributing to the project and being involved.
I would really like to strive to push PAST the $2900 goal as much as we can so that I can give them both the money they deserve for the work they are doing. They are creative people just like I am. Nothing would make me happier than to fund this project, have talented people involved, and be able to fairly compensate them for their time and talent and we are all part of something we can all be proud of together.
IF WE REACH $4,000 I can pay my team what they truly deserve for their work. So maybe keep that in mind when you are deciding which reward may work best for you. You are not just supporting one artist with this campaign: you are supporting three.
(my favorite part)
Most of the rewards are pretty self explanatory. I look forward to sharing some of my past creativity with people who support this campaign. I believe what I am offering is reasonable in return for the support of this project. I want to be fair, I want everyone to be happy. (I have seen some rewards on Kickstarter that just floor me. $25 for a download of a 5 song EP?! And 52 people backed it?! Sheeesh!)
I have a backlog of past albums so those and the new CD are the focus of the first set of rewards.
Get it before everyone else by being a Kickstarter supporter.
The digital download is the fastest way to receive your copy of the new album. You will be able to download the album as soon as I have the finished masters.
For those going with the physical CD you will receive your "advanced" copy" of the new album 2 weeks before I make it available for purchase anywhere else.
The "My Life's Work" Reward is my favorite.
You get a copy of Chasing Magic, Stolen Season, Kindred Saint, the new album, AND a disc of previously unreleased demo songs! This is a Kickstarter exclusive. I am only doing 25 of these. This disc is 10 demos of my songs that have yet to get a proper recording.
And now, the reward you are not likely to find anywhere else: A Piece Of Florida! In addition to all four of my albums we are gonna do something fun together with this one!
This is kind of like a "Flat Stanley" thing. Send me something of yours (reasonably sized please. Something that can fit in my hand) and I will take it to major landmarks in central Florida and take a picture of it. Stuffed animals work well. Or a cardboard cut out of someone or some thing. This is just FUN. And it's not something you can just go to the store and buy. I am fortunate to live in central Florida and I would enjoy sharing a little bit of it with you. I am thinking of taking pictures at all of the major picture spots at all 4 Disney parks (or specific places if you have any other ideas) and maybe a few things over at Universal too. Also a picture or two at the ocean? Other locations may work upon request, but let's not get crazy! :)
10 picture/location limit. I'm afraid you will be responsible for shipping the items to me (and back) in addition to the reward price. Sorry- but this could really add up! I'm only able to do 30 of these, so think about it!
Here are some sample pictures I took.
$400 Let's Get Creative reward.
With this you get all my albums, and let's make some music! I thought it may be fun to write something on demand. I can either just talk to you and get a sense of what you want and write something specifically for you, or we can maybe write something together if you have any specific lyrical or musical ideas. I will record it and send it to you so you will have it forever. Who knows, if it turns out REAL good we may use it on the next Jace record!
I know $400 may at first glance seem a bit steep, but you're paying for my "genius"! HA! :)
(and more accurately- writing and recording a song takes hours and hours and hours)
I have to limit this to 5 cuz this could also get out of control.
WHEN WILL THE ALBUM BE FINISHED?
I would prefer to under promise and over deliver. As with any aggressive creative project there are things that may go wrong before they go right... and I intend to be a perfectionist with this project. I am extremely motivated and excited to finish this album, but I also want to make sure I do it right. We will have this record forever, after all.
If this campaign is successful there are still more steps to take to get it from the studio into your hands. I will certainly work and try to get it together as soon as I can. But the latest I expect it to be done is February 2015. It truly should not take that long. But as I said, I would rather get it done sooner than promised rather than later. The LAST thing I want is to disappoint anybody!
(Can you tell how excited I am about this?!)
WHAT THIS PROJECT MEANS TO ME:
Being a songwriter is the only thing I ever had real passion for. I am very proud of my past albums and I am so excited about this campaign! I have two more albums worth of material already written. However, making a record (especially making it almost entirely alone) takes so much time and attention. To me, if this campaign is successful, then this album is successful. And it will motivate me me to continue to create and keep moving forward, knowing I have a big enough audience interested in my music: that's you guys! :)
Music is meant to be shared. Kickstarter offers us a way to make something together. Something we can all be a part of and be proud of.
My dream is to be creative the rest of my life, not just for myself, but also to connect with people through my songs.
This project can continue to make that possible.
Thank you SO much for your time, for listening, and for your support!
I did my best to cover all the info I could think of here. But, of course, I may have missed a thing or two. If you have ANY questions at all I am pretty easy to find. I will answer anything I can.
Thank you again for reading. :) firstname.lastname@example.org
Risks and challenges
I want to use this section to give you a glimpse into the anticipated timeline. Once this Kickstarter campaign is over, I should have only one song left to finish. I will be recording it from scratch, and I plan to make a little web series out of it for fun. The process should take approx 3-4 weeks. Once that is done, I will go back and comb through every song to make sure I am happy.
The next step will be having it mastered. This should go smoothly, but it's possible there will be some back and forth to make sure we are all satisfied. This should take 2 - 3 weeks. Then the CD will be duplicated. This should take a week to 10 days.
All together, if everything goes as planned the album should be in my hands approx 3 months after this project is funded.
I plan to make weekly updates once this campaign is over to keep everyone in the loop, so be sure to check there for progress.
There is always the possibility of delays, but at this point the only one that could possibly occur is if the studio crashes. And if that happens- well we will deal with that through my cursing and tears. :)
And, of course, fulfilling some of these FUN rewards may take time away from the studio! Muah ha ha ha!!!
