About

The Video

What we have above is our concept trailer.  Some of these are actual scenes from the film and some of these are scenes created to demonstrate some key plot points we wanted to share.

About the Film

In the 1930's and 40's, Cleveland, Ohio was terrorized by serial killer and the crimes remain unsolved to this day.  Bodies were found missing heads, arms, legs.  Sometimes heads were found but missing the bodies.  Dark, grizzly stuff.  Our film takes place in the present day and is about a copy-cat serial killer replicating the crimes of the past with all new victims.  Our film is of course fictionalized and uses the true facts as inspiration.  Our two main characters are a private investigator and a retired police detective.  The Private Investigator is involved because the families of two of the victims do not trust the police to handle solving the murders.  The retired detective was responsible for handling the cold case of the original murders and he was never able to solve them.  Researching the case day in and day out took him to some very dark places, and when the Private Investigator comes to him for help, he's reluctant but agrees to help.  He knows this new killer must be stopped.

The films has a large cast of characters.  Good guys, bad guys, and red herrings everywhere to keep you guessing who's who and what's what.

Main Cast

Deanna Sherman
Deanna Sherman

Our lead actress is Deanna Sherman.  She plays the Private Investigator who navigates through our story.  She's a workaholic trying to balance her personal life with the madness she's fallen into trying to solve the murders of the Kingsbury Run copy-cat killer.  She's also a tough bad ass, not afraid to get her knuckles bloody if necessary.  Deanna is a very talented local Cleveland actress who has done work all over.  She recently filmed three shows for Investigation Discovery and they begin airing this summer: Deadline Crime with Tamron Hall, Evil Kin and the number one show on ID, Homicide Hunter.

B.R. Tatalovic
B.R. Tatalovic

Our lead actor is B.R. Tatalovic. He plays the retired Cleveland detective who was responsible for handling the Kingsbury Run cold-case.  The macabre nature of the case led him to retirement.  He then cashed in on the subject by sensationalizing it in his true crime novels.  The Private Investigator seeks out his expertise and tries to pick his brain about this new killer.  He regularly fights with wanting to get involved and wanting to stay retired.  He remembers the affect this madness had on him in the past and he doesn't want to go back to those places.  B.R. Tatalovic is a very experienced actor and director.  He has recently completed his own film "Lux in Tenebris" starring Eric Roberts and appeared in several other films such as "Tomorrow You're Gone".

Filming

Filming will take place in Cleveland and should be during the Spring of 2016.  (We can use the rain if necessary!)  We plan to shoot in one continuous span of a couple weeks rather than spreading the film out over months (or even years!) as some other productions do.  We will film using Blackmagic Design Cameras and will hire a professional Sound Recorder (see below for the importance of sound, and more about the crew).

Where Will My Money Go?

Your donations, which are beyond greatly appreciated, will go towards any (or all) of the following:

1) Cast.  A featured SAG name actor (or two) for just a day (or two) of filming.  We will round out the cast with some of the most talented local actors and actresses we can find.

2) Props.  We'll need to heavily dress a few locations with props.  Simple example: one of our characters has a make-shift medical lab in his basement, we will probably not be able to find a basement with a make-shift medical lab so we will need to disguise a good basement with instruments and other tools of the nature.  Building a set like this from scratch is not a possibility without blowing up the budget, so we need to be creative to solve these problems.

3) Locations.  We will NOT spend your money on a local bar location if we can get the next bar over for free, but some locations do come at a small cost.  For example, we need to film in a bookstore.  We would film on a day that the store is closed, but the owner or an owner's employee is probably going to need to be present.  The owner would not be expected to pay that employee's wage, we would cover that cost.  But again - this is independent film:  if we can find a bookstore down the street that's just as good and wont charge us (somehow) then your money would go towards other things.

4) Crew.  We already plan to use a small crew.  I direct and shoot.  I know when things go wrong visually and I can correct them, but that leaves other aspects for other people. Sound is so important.  In Independent Films it is easy to overlook good sound and we will not be falling victim to this on our film.  For just a few days of the shoot we will need a Special Effects Make-Up person (we get a little bloody!)

5) Music.  Along with sound, on a Thriller/Suspense film, a great musical score cannot be neglected.  Your money could end up going towards having someone create the eerie compositions and the heart pounding compositions that will go with the equally disturbing scenes in our film.

Why This One?

The Kingsbury Run is one of the darkest stories (possibly THE darkest story) of Cleveland's past and the facts behind the true story will create the perfect twisted setting for our film.  We use these facts as a morbid inspiration for our tale and the result should be thrilling.  People will be guessing until the end who the killer is, why they're doing it, how they're doing it, then when they've got the answers it's flipped upside down again.  We already have a strong female lead, a talented supporting cast, creepy villains, sketchy characters, and a Cleveland setting.  With your help, we'll have everything else we need to be successful.

Risks and challenges

Independent film is almost always a risk, no two ways about it. But the rewards are incredible. Having people see something you were a part of and are proud of is a great thing, and hopefully it can become a financially rewarding thing as well. As for challenges, our production team can say that we have never failed to complete a film. From the smallest budget we've worked with (a few hundred) to the largest (a few thousand), we've always completed our films. We obviously cannot guarantee that we will get into festivals and find distribution, but with the plans outlined above we will certainly be doing things the best possible way for those avenues. Thank you again, in advance.
