Hello once more, friends. Jon and Ryan here, welcoming you to the end of 2014. It's been an exciting year, what with politics, international things, and a variety of issues, which we are definitely aware of, and anyone who told you otherwise is just trying to make us look bad.
Well, with that out of the way, we can move along to other fun things, like...
We supposed it might be a good idea once more to look back at our year and see where we were, and where we've come.
First and foremost, we'd like to thank you all for your patience. It's been a busy year all around, but we've managed to push City Quest to the edge of completion.
Within the year, we've seen the completion of 3 out of 4 storylines, the bulk of the art completed, we were Greenlit on Steam, and most of the areas have been fleshed out and made interactive.
Here's a fun comparison!
We've more than doubled the word count since last year, as well. So many words. Are you ready to read until your eyes bleed? I certainly hope so.
Outside of the game, we've both seen a few life changes this year. Jon moved back to Wisconsin this fall, and both of us started new positions, which have kept us busy.
Anyway, you're probably wondering how the game itself is coming, huh? Well, we've got one fun thing to announce...
We've decided to release an Early Access beta for all of you backers on Steam. We're going to round out the last storyline, quash any remaining game-breaking bugs, and kick it out for you folks to give a shot.
The last storyline is the primary focus right now, so this early access should be coming relatively quickly. As is our (unfortunate) policy now, we don't have an exact date yet. Since we're still both working fulltime jobs, and can only spend so much time on City Quest, we're not exactly sure when this is going to happen, but you'll be the first to know when we've got a date.
We've been working very hard on this, and we know you're excited to play it, so we're looking forward to hearing from those of you who choose to play the beta.
So, what's next?
Well, there are a few big holes that need to be filled (hehe), and a swath of little ones too.
Finish Politician Storyline (as referenced earlier)
Interactions with several areasFinish implementing several achievementsFinish all backer NPCs (only a handful left)Moar Deaths!
Most of the little tasks are bug related. Of course, bug fixing is important, but most of these tasks are not time-consuming.
Finish/Add minor side quests.
So, as the game sneaks closer to completion, we're looking towards release, and planning our strategy. It looks something roughly like this:
-Finish Politician Storyline
-Fix Critical Bugs
-Incorporate backer feedback/fix more bugs
-Internal Bug Bash
-Full cycle bug test/fix
-Submit to Steam/Desura/GoG/Other PC/Mac/Linux storefronts (Steam requires submission 1 month before desired release)
-Print/Ship physical game copies to backers
-Release on PC/Mac/Linux (Linux may be a bit delayed, depending on any extra testing that might be needed)
-Repeat testing/release process for other platforms.
To all of you, once more we say "Thanks for sticking with us". You've been waiting for this game for a long time, and though our estimates have been off several times in the past, 2015 will see the release of City Quest. We're beyond excited to get this game into your hands, and we hope you love it as much as we've loved making it.
