SKELOS is edited by Mark Finn, author of the World Fantasy Award-nominated BLOOD AND THUNDER; Chris Gruber, editor of Robert E. Howard's BOXING STORIES from the University of Nebraska Press; and Jeffrey Shanks, co-editor of the Bram Stoker Award-nominated UNIQUE LEGACY OF WEIRD TALES.
"I'm excited to be part of the editorial staff for this journal. We are finding and publishing material that we love to read, and read about. There's a long-standing tradition to weird fiction, and we think we can contribute something new and exciting to it." -- Mark Finn, Editor
The first issue will contain short fiction from such talented writers as Charles Gramlich, Dave Hardy, Jason Ray Carney, Ethan Nahte, Scott Hannan, and Matt Sullivan; a fully illustrated adaptation of Grettir and the Draugr from the Icelandic sagas by Samuel Dillon; weird verse by K. A. Opperman, Ashley Dioses, Frank Coffman, Pat Calhoun, Kenneth Bykerk, and Jason Hardy; Insightful essays by Nicole Emmelhainz, Karen Kohoutek, and Jeffrey Shanks; reviews by Charles Hoffman, Bobby Derie, Keith West, Todd Vick, Paul McNamee, Brian Murphy, Deuce Richardson, and Josh Adkins; and with illustrations by Mark Schultz, Tomás Giorello, Samuel Dillon, and David Cullen.
Our plan is to make Skelos the framework for a community of like minded fans, writers, artists, and scholars that love horror fantasy and weird fiction. This Kickstarter is only the beginning!
Please view the table below for shipping charges. You can add the appropriate shipping cost to your pledge amount or you can wait and be billed for shipping when the issues are ready to mail. Thanks!
During the Kickstarter we will also make available for purchase as add-ons some of the original art from the first issue of the journal. Watch the updates for more details!
The base funding goal of $2000 covers the costs of issue one. This includes payment to the contributors, costs of editing and layout, and overhead expenses. We are already gearing up for our second issue which will be out later this fall. For future issues we want to add more artwork and improved content so there will be slight cost increases. If we meet our first stretch goal of $4500 then issue two will be fully funded. At $8000 issue three is funded More stretch goals may be added as the campaign gets under way!
If you would like to add print or digital additional copies simply increase the amount of your pledge to the appropriate amount. You will be surveyed after the Kickstarter ends to confirm and finalize your order.
We are also offering advertising space to our backers. Ads will appear in the print and PDF editions and in the mobi and epub editionas as formatting permits. All ads must meet formatting requirements which will be provided at the end of the Kickstarter.
Risks and challenges
The first issue is completed, with only some last minute layout and art to be added. So there is little to no risk for backers of the first issue.
We are already assembling material for the second issue and should have no problems having it ready for our target publication window of Fall 2016. So again this is little or no risk for those backing the subscription options.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
