About

What does it do?  

This board provides six touch sensitive buttons, each with its own LED indicator. It can be mounted behind any non-conductive surface using two sided tape or screws, and supports both touch and proximity sensing.

This lets you create fully encapsulated electronics projects, e.g. for outdoor use, as protection against vandalism, built into toys, etc.

It also provides for maximum flexibility in your user interface design: simply print your design on a piece of paper, and sandwich it between a sheet of plexiglass and the sensor PCB.

For additional auditory feedback on button presses, each boards comes with a miniature buzzer.

 How do I use it?

The sensor board interfaces to practically any microcontroller via I2C. You need to connect four wires (2 for power, 2 for the serial bus). Optionally, you can hook up an interrupt and reset line. An Arduino library and example code is provide. 

The prototype board shown in the pictures is connected through a 6-pin AMP CT header (power, I2C, IRQ, reset). The final boards will additionally have a grove connector (only power and I2C) and solder pads for all six lines.

Risks and challenges

We see very little risk with this project. We've already built 30 working prototype boards that we are evaluating in one of our own projects, and that are performing very well so far.
