Back from Buenos Aires!

Posted by Charles Cushing (Creator)

Dear Friends,

I arrived in Philadelphia yesterday morning after two months painting in Buenos Aires. It was a great trip, I executed 12 canvases, and made many drawings and sketches and have ideas for larger paintings that I will use the sketches as reference for. I am planning a show sometime in early 2013.

The paintings were  done on unstretched linen, and they have to be stretched, in some cases "tweaked", and photographed, and as this is done in the next few weeks I will post them on my facebook page. Those of you who pledged for original paintings will get to chose in the order you pledged. The same process will be used for the drawings, which will also be matted and framed. I would like to keep all of this artwork for my show, but you can "claim" the piece that you pledged for.

I will also be producing a limited edition "giclee" print of at least TWO of the images, and those who pledged for the print will be able to chose which one they want. These can be shipped, rolled in a crush-proof tube. This will take a few weeks to get the painting 100% complete, and have it scanned, proofed, and printed.

For those of you who pledged for "Fileteado" signs, I will need to know roughly what you would like the sign to say (short phrases like 'home sweet home" or a person's name or the name of a business, etc.). The best way to do this is to do a Google image search of fileteado buenos aires (or "fileteado alfredo genovese") and look at examples and get an idea of what you would like. Then call me directly at 267-679-7853 and we will discuss the concept and I will make a preliminary sketch, which I can email to you for approval before I paint the sign. Traditional Fileteado frequently includes an animal (usually a lion, dragon, or bird), and may or may not have lettering. You will get many ideas from looking at the images on Google, and I can advise. The signs will be painted on pieces of masonite, roughly 12x16" give or take, depending on dimensions, etc.

For those who pledged for the box of greeting cards, i will need your address so I can ship the box of cards to you in a padded envelope. Of course, you may use what you donated as credit if you would like to "upgrade" to the purchase of the limited edition print, a Flieteado sign, an original drawing or original oil painting. Again, images of the artwork will be posted in albums on my Facebook page (Charles Cushing) this will take a few weeks to accomplish.

You will all receive notification of my exhibition/celebration party/milonga (probably at my center city Philadelphia studio, possibly in February, 2013). Thank you all again for pledging the funds that made it possible for me to take this trip! It was extremely inspiring, I saw and did many things, and am very excited about my upcoming exhibition of the Buenos Aires work! Contact me via this site or by phone if you have questions, and look for updates and Facebook postings.

      Hola Charles,
I am in your shadow in Argentina, having enjoyed several days in BA, and now basking in the sun in Mendoza. I look forward to your exhibition and perhaps before then will see you in Buttonwood for some dancing.
      Hasta pronto,
