About this project
Kid Warfare is a short film that centers around a group of middle school kids. The central conflict revolves around the traditional, boys versus girls competitive instinct. The tale takes a fantasy-like twist that magnifies the boys vs girls struggle and in the end, both the boys and the girls gain a little insight on the motivations and reasonings behind this classic rivalry. This story will highlight that innocent time when quarrels were settled at recess and will awaken a sense of nostalgia that anyone can relate to.
INSPIRATION FOR THE PROJECT
The passion behind the project is palpable. Last November, Sam mentioned how his younger sibilings wanted in on our action shorts. We were thrilled to hear that younger kids wanted to take part in the film making process; but since it would be in bad taste to make another action short with kids blowing each other up, Josh and I came up with a creative way to include the kids while still keeping KOTR's style and aesthetic. Since then, the project has taken off. Every detail has been meticulously planned, ranging from scouting for the perfect shooting location to themed wardrobes and props.
WHAT MAKES THIS PROJECT SPECIAL
With the slew of viral-DIY action short films that are flooding youtube as of late, (Freddiew, Corridor Digital, etc.) it may seem like the niche might be fully tapped. However, Knights of the Round thinks differently. Knights of the Round has come up with a very original and creative project that will not only add to the current library of visual effects driven viral shorts, but will also progress the niche by incorporating rich storytelling to balance the in-your-face action.
ASPIRATIONS FOR KID WARFARE
Since Knights of the Round plans on not only adding new content to the current niche, but also progressing it; it is only natural that we plan on submitting Kid Warfare to as many film festivals as possible. We feel like we have a project that is really special so we want maximum exposure. From local to regional to national festivals; we plan on submitting Kid Warfare to as many as we can.
In addition to submitting to film festivals, Knights of the Round has clear goals to obtain a partnership with YouTube to further progress our film careers. We are hoping that Kid Warfare will be the spark to start this partnership so more attention and resources can be focused on our more ambitious projects.
WHERE THE DONATIONS WILL BE GOING
Knights of the Round currently uses a standard point and shoot CANON that would be better suited for shooting UFO sightings, home videos, or Bar Mitzvahs. In order for Kid Warfare to live up to our high expectations and to truly meet our vision, we are in need of a professional grade camera (CANON 7D, T3i, etc.) a lens, light kit, proper green screen set-up, and sound gear.
Since proper sound design is such an important component to immersive film-making (not to mention action-oriented film-making), we also plan on hiring local, professional sound designers/editors in order to increase the quality of the short even more.
Props and wardrobe will also take up a bit of the donations. To give Kid Warfare a surreal feel for the battlefield, we will need to purchase plastic playground units to litter the battlefield. Wardrobe purchases will consist of colored camouflage fabric and other accessories to create unity among each side while also creating polarity between each conflicting side.
Lastly, since the inspiration for Kid Warfare came from our younger siblings; we plan on making this production as rich and fun as we can for them. We want their first film-making experience to cover all aspects of a real, professional shoot. We plan on providing some form of craft services and catering each day.
At the end of the shoot, we plan on surprising the kids with a water gun fight. A real-life Kid Warfare. For this plan to materialize, we will use part of the donations to purchase necessary snacks/food, and water guns.
Knights of the Round has been a film-making team for close to 3 years and have done numerous projects together. From plot driven shorts, to the common after-effects laden action shorts, Knights of the Round has experience in all facets of the film making process. One of the biggest motivators behind what drives the Knights of the Round crew to make short films is brotherhood and camaraderie. With the collective experience and cohesion that comes from this group, Kid Warfare will not only be a project that brings something new to the genre of viral-action shorts, but will also help nurture a love of film in a younger generation.
