Shield Wall Gaming Terrain: Dungeon Set
Shield Wall Gaming wants to bring free-form dungeon building design to tabletop gaming.
This project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Tue, April 16 2019 10:01 PM UTC +00:00.
Why another wall system?
Have you ever had your adventuring party come across a fantastic place and then have to compromise on setting up the walls to outline that place? Does it take forever to draw it or, like me, you can't draw a circle or a straight line? Why does every corner have to be 90°? Why do I have to buy a separate set of walls to make a wall at a 45° angle or a narrow hallway?
I have been scouring KickStarter for many different systems over the years. I have backed and purchased Chessex mats, Dwarven Forge pieces, classic dungeon tiles, cardboard and clip systems, and even 3d print files for low wall dungeons and dungeon decorations. All fantastic products that didn't quite do all I wanted.
These thoughts lingered in my mind and led me to design this wall system that I have been tinkering with for years. I wanted to be able to make flowing curves, strange shapes, and still make standard 90°corners as well. I also wanted to avoid having to dig through a large box of terrain consisting of dozens of different shapes and connectors.
The basic Shield Wall Gaming Terrain: Dungeon Set includes 16 two inch wall panels, 4 one inch wall panels, one connector wall panel, and two functional plain wooden doors in their frames.
(NOTE: All pieces will be shipped unpainted)
Here are a couple ways you can utilize one set of terrain during your game.
Even with just one set you can design unique buildings for your players to explore!
Each door is a three-part system. You can quickly lift the top frame and insert a different door during play. If your barbarian decides not to wait and smashes the door down, it will be very easy to remove a door to represent that. You could even leave the door on the dungeon floor to help inspire improvisation. The doors swing open in either direction and therefore can easily represent if the players left it open as they continued to delve into the unknown.
Here are some design ideas you create with two sets. I painted them up quickly with a base coat of black and a quick dry brush of grey.
This next picture show 4 sets (except for 2 doors as I didn't have them printed out yet).
Stopping the Earthquakes!
Players (and the occasional DM) bump the table and BOOM! stuff falls over. Each piece of Shield Wall Gaming Terrain will also have an opening in the bottom to glue in a magnet. It is sized to fit 6mm by 3mm round magnets.
I have found these are more than strong enough to hold the pieces in place. I used a large play mat and glued it to some 12 inch by 18 inch flat galvanized steel. This created a really nice surface for the magnets.
This terrain works fantastic without the magnet system but with it, you can withstand a lot of disruptions, maybe even the catpocalypse!

Height comparison with Dwarven Forge
Comparing this to Dwarven Forge dungeon tiles shows how they are compatible in height.

The first 50 backers will get a free set of RPG dice!
So the first 50 backers will get a set of RPG dice to include 1D20, 1D12, 2D10, 1D8, 1D6, 1D4. Colors will be random but I will try to make them one color sets. You may have multiple colors in a set.

Risks and challenges
Risks are always a possibility but I try to delve into every corner of fulfillment and try to fix problems before they arise. The challenge to this project is manufacturing. I have researched two different methods to manufacture this and tried to schedule a reasonable amount of time for completion. I have pledged failed projects. I know why those have failed and tried to avoid those problems. I chose the one-year window for fulfillment just to be ultra safe, but will be working hard to have all pledges complete by Christmas 2019! I am always open to any suggestions and ideas and look forward to making this happen.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
