Junior Magazine is a new photographic journal that provides a platform for emerging talent in Irish documentary photography. We seek to foster a new photographic community and shine a spotlight on outstanding work that is too often overlooked. In showcasing the work of Dublin photographers, the magazine also serves as a de-facto love-letter to the city we call home. This issue features the work of six photographers each of whom provide a totally unique perspective on the world around them.
With Junior, we want to create a printed object that not only showcases this work but also acts as a piece of art in itself. We want to create something to be kept and cherished, something that you are proud to own.
The theme for our first issue is 'youth'. We gave our photographers a blank canvas and maximum freedom to tell the stories that they are passionate about. The result is a thought-provoking document that explores questions of home, identity and growing up.
WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO
Junior is headed by Ellius Grace and George Voronov who have worked together to curate the work featured in this issue. Ellius is a portrait and fashion photographer with a great taste in socks and George is a documentary photographer, photobook nerd and part-time adventurer. Our Creative Director Cian Brennan is a talented graphic designer, peerless filmmaker and all-round superhero.
FUNDING AND REWARDS
We are publishing Junior without any corporate advertising and we need your help to do so. The proceeds of this crowd-funding campaign are going directly to help us cover our printing costs.
Our aim is to make an amazing magazine, not to make money. We want to create something we are proud of, something that does justice to the work of our talented photographers and hopefully something that inspires those who read it.
Our reward tiers are structured around getting the work of our photographers into the hands of our generous backers. By supporting this project your donations serve as an investment into the output of homegrown photographic talent.
THE CURRENT STATE OF AFFAIRS
We have already finalised the design and are currently collecting the work from our photographers. At the time of writing, Junior will be ready to send to the printer's in just over a week's time.
We are working with Plus Print in Glasnevin to create a truly beautiful magazine. We are using high quality materials and offset printing to guarantee a finish that feels great in your hands. Together with Plus Print, we will ensure that Junior emerges from the press as an object worthy of your love.
THE CAST OF JUNIOR 01
In curating our first issue, we placed a huge importance on showcasing a wide variety of work in order to do justice to the diversity and talent present in Dublin. We have photographers working in black and white, others in colour. There are profound differences in both style and artistic approaches, all are beautiful, all are fascinating.
We are launching our magazine on 27 May in The Library Project, Temple Bar. We want the launch of Junior to be an occasion for like minded people to come together and have a great time. Everyone is welcome and we would love to meet anyone who is as stoked about photography as we are.
Please come say hi.
In the meanwhile, please follow along with our progress in making Junior Magazine a reality:
Words cannot articulate how much we appreciate your donations. Thank you so much, we quite literally cannot do it without you,
George and Ellius
