Graphic novel on a night struggling with insomnia
My name is Lena Nicolajsen. I am a children books writer, illustrator and toy designer. After my time at the designschool in copenhagen, I´ve worked for companies the first couple of years. I realised I had to draw to live and I became a freelance illustrator and designer.
Now I am starting a personal series of stories from my life, where nothing really extraordinary happens, or maybe in the most normal of moments is where the extraordinary is.
“The smallest stories” are now in small notebooks in pencil sketchform in a box in my flat. I will illustrate and publish them one by one, when funded here on Kickstarter. They will all be in English.
The first story is “when I go to sleep” - a short story about a terrible night struggling with insomnia, not helped at all by modern technology and social media!
This story came from my own life and a night where I struggled with insomnia and I became stranger and stranger in my head until I felt like I wasn´t apart of me or this world anymore - this was so scary and in some ways also really funny. The day after I started drawing the experience down in a sketchbook. A tribute to all the non-sleepers out there! I feel you <3
Did you know that estimates are that 30 to 50% of people around the globe have some difficulty with sleeping?
Also, women seem to have a higher incidence of insomnia than men! Thank you so much gender! So in the last page of the book I included som good advice against insomnia.
I have spent the last year creating this book. What I need now are the funds for the production run at the printing house and packaging.
But I will do everything to make it worth your while <3
The rewards are many, have a look and let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Risks and challenges
I really did a lot of preparing for this book and since I have made every step of the book printing process before. Then it wasn´t so hard for me. I got a price from the printer and he is ready to do the work as soon as I send him the files.
Now I just have to finish the lettering and drawing the last pages. I will posts the drawing process on instagram and I hope you will join me on the last steps to a finished book. Thank you so much for your time and support <3
If you have any questions or comments, please let me know :)
