About this project
This is a compilaton cd of unknown Georgia songwriters, artists and bands. The cd will be used to promote their music throughout the state and we are planning on setting up some concerts to help them introduce their music to a new audience that has never heard them before. We will set up a web site to sell the compilation cd and also have links to the artists own web site so that they can sell their own cds as well.
Since announcing this project we have had over 100 songs submitted for consideration. The only criteria involved was that it be genre-specific (country) and Georgia based. We are in the process now of selecting which 15 or 16 songs will be put on the cd. The people making these selections are long time Georgia music people and that has become the hardest part of this entire project, narrowing down the songs to what we consider the best.
The money donated will go toward mixing and mastering of the songs selected, design of the cover art for the cd and the packaging, the manufacture of the cds themselves, building and maintaining the web site promoting the compilation cd and also the cds of the artists themselves, storage and shipping fees, promotional items-posters, t-shirts, concert venues, legal fees and any other fees that usually crop up at the last minute.
We have talked to a lot of people throughout the state about this project and have gotten a lot of good ideas on how to promote it, venues for possible concerts, radio, tv, etc. There is a lot of excitement not only among the artists here but also from people interested in helping promote independent music.
Risks and challenges
The only real challenge will be to find ways to promote the cd and the individual artists, songwriters and bands. We have been talking to several local music people about promoting it and having some newspaper articles and setting up a kickoff concert.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
