To the printers, and beyond!
Well it's finally done... research, writing, editing, photography, type setting, cover design, more editing, proofing, final file preparation and now the book has finally gone to the printers - proper job!
The files have gone through their automated checking system, and been manually reviewed, and they found everything to be in order so I have just (5 minutes ago!) placed a confirmed order for a hard copy proof. I was able to pay extra for an expedited service and so I should have the first hard copy of the book in my hands by 26th September!
As soon as I have that, I simply check that everything has printed as expected and sign off to say that I'm happy, and then order the first batch of books. They should take around 2 weeks to print and deliver, which gives an estimated delivery date to me around 10th October when I happen to be in Rotterdam for a martial arts tournament, but that means they should be here when I return after that weekend, so I will be planning to ship all orders that week (probably on 16th or 17th October).
In the meantime, I will now get the digital version formatted since that can't use quite the same layout as for the print version and so I will be sending out all book rewards (both print and digital, plus the bonuses) at the same time. My Kickstarter backers will of course be the first people to get their hands on the book, and as soon as all rewards have been shipped the book will then go on general sale.
It's been a long old slog, but thanks for your patience. I've learned a lot in the process, and have a new found respect for authors and publishers - I had no idea how big a task it would be and how many different processes would be involved to go from an idea to a retail product, but it's been a fun journey.
I'll of course post another update when the first print run is ordered, and again when the books arrive and I'm shipping them out. In the meantime, if anyone's details have changed since you ordered and you need your book sent to a different address please drop me a quick email at email@example.com or send me a private message through the Kickstarter system. Similarly if you have ordered a book and want to add one or more extra copies (Christmas isn't that far away you know!) you can email me for details and get a discount on the list price, and pay no extra postage!
All the best,
