Two of the most exciting musicians of their generation, Berlin-based trumpeter/composer Tom Arthurs and London-based electronic musician and composer Isambard Khroustaliov (a.k.a. Sam Britton) seek your support to create a limited edition LP of eight stunning real-time compositions recorded in late 2013. A high quality digital version will also be available, as well as perks including private concerts, signed back-catalogue and an exclusive set of prints that accompany each track of the release.
Evolving out of a ten year friendship, the label and collective Not Applicable, and a UK tour of Graphic Scores (featuring Joanna MacGregor and Ollie Coates among others), Arthurs and Khroustaliov have commissioned renowned experimental architect Will Alsop and music-writer-of-the-moment David Toop to create artwork and text to equal their musical exploits, resulting in a total artwork something akin to the LPs of the 60s, 70s and 80s that we all love so much.
Your support here will pay for vinyl mastering (at Abbey Road studios), artwork and duplication, resulting in a hand-numbered and signed limited-edition piece to treasure and enjoy for years to come.
One of Europe's brightest and most versatile young talents, Tom Arthurs (1980) is a trumpeter, composer and improviser active internationally in both jazz and improvised music circles and renowned for his glowing sound and relentless creativity. He has released on ECM, ACT, Intakt, Unit, Babel and Creative Sources, composed for string quartet and the BBC Concert Orchestra, and has performed and recorded with everybody from John Taylor to Phil Minton, Eddie Prévost to Jan Bang and Julia Hülsmann to Ingrid Laubrock.
Isambard Khroustaliov is the solo alias of electronic musician and composer Sam Britton from the groups Icarus, Fiium Shaarrk and Leverton Fox. Sam trained as an architect at the Architectural Association in London, but took up music full time after securing a recording contract as an undergraduate. Since 1997 he has recorded and released music for a number of independent electronic music labels in the UK and the US (Output Recordings, Temporary Residence, Domino and The Leaf Label) and performs internationally with his various groups, solo and in collaboration with numerous improvising musicians and ensembles. In 2006 he completed a masters course in electronic music and composition at IRCAM in Paris and in January 2011 was selected to work with the London Sinfonietta as part of their Writing the Future commissioning scheme. He is an associate of The New Radiophonic Workshop.
Risks and challenges
The music is recorded, mixed and ready to go, except the mastering.
Once we have reached our goal we will commission David Toop for his essay.
The only possible challenges will be delay in finding dates for mastering, lessons and private concerts, and in production delays that can occasionally occur when pressing vinyl. We hope of course this will not occur.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
