*New stretch goal of $7,000!*
This amount will allow us to, in addition to releasing an album, add a video shoot of our recording session! Videographer George Marshall will join us and create music videos to accompany our album. You can find his work with District5 on our website (also featured at the beginning/end of our kickstarter video!).
Why Chopin for wind quintet?
It's our time!
It's never been done. It seems impossible. You'll hear Chopin's complete piano preludes for the first time in a way you've never heard them before: transcribed for winds by composer and pianist, David Plylar. It’s an entirely new way to listen to these classics.
This will also be District5's first album! In our quest to expand the repertoire of the wind quintet, District5 wishes to boldly offer our interpretation of these great works by Frederic Chopin.
What will be on this album?
All the Preludes that Frederic Chopin ever wrote:
- Preludes op. 28
- Prelude in C-sharp minor, op. 45
- Prelude in A-flat major, op. posth.
Where will this album be recorded?
We will record at SUNY Fredonia, where we will work with recording engineer, Paul Coleman.
The Transcriber: David Plylar
Hear from composer and pianist, David Plylar on what it’s like to transcribe the Chopin preludes for winds!
What does the project cost?
Our fundraising goal is $5000. The money we are raising will go towards:
- Production and editing costs
- Recording engineer fees
- CD distribution fees
- Digital distribution fees
- Travel costs associated with getting up to Fredonia, NY for our recording sessions
What the money is NOT for:
One reason that we are able to keep our costs so low is because we are not taking any artist fees! This is a purely a labor of love and project in which we passionately believe.
We are a certified 501(c) (3) non-profit! All of your donations are tax deductible!
