Hi I'm Thoki!
I am a fashion designer from Cape Town, South Africa. Ever since I was little girl I wanted to be a fashion designer. I spent a lot of time inside drawing pictures of dresses on imaginary heroines in my notebook. My gran would sit and thread her needle as I drew. I wanted to be able to make clothes like her so bad! I paid close attention and I learned from her. Before long, my dolls were strutting my ranges down the kitchen table runway. As time went on I became comfortable enough to wear my own work. Now, I am taking another step forward.
This year I had the chance to travel to Seattle, New York, and San Francisco for the first time. It was an amazing trip and I fell in love with America and its history. I was inspired to create a range that was both modern and yet deeply influenced by the fashion and vibe of the 1920's Jazz Era. I submitted my ideas and was selected to showcase my range 'Bent' at Seattle Fashion Week in June.
I am truly humbled and extremely honored to be given this chance. Since I launchd my Thoki Tafeni brand in 2011 it has been a dream of mine to share my work in America. With your help, that dream will become a reality! I have worked long and hard to pursue my passion and the experience of designing this range has made me realize that anything is possible. I am stepping out into the world with this new line and I want you to join me! In return I want to share with you an exclusive look into the fashion world and my journey with this runway.
Here are some photos of my last runway in Cape Town
I hope this runway is only the beginning of a journey that will allow me to create and showcase my designs around the world. I believe that if I work hard at it I can make my goal come true. I’m asking you to believe in me as well and to back my vision. Together with your support I know that we can get Thoki Tafeni Designs to Seattle Fashion Week and beyond!
I was once asked what advice I would give to young designers and I passed on what I had learned so far in my short career. It is the same thing I tell myself everyday,
“Be humble but dream big, be authentic, work hard, and fight for your passions!"

Risks and challenges
My range is 70% complete. I have set forth almost 2 months to give me plenty of time to create a beautiful finished product. My position at Seattle Fashion Week has been accepted and still stands. My plane Tickets are booked. I'm close but I'm not there yet! With your support I will finish the range and proudly showcase it at Seattle Fashion Week with enough resources to go straight into production after the show. In return I'm excited to have you with me to experience the runway first hand. From the bottom of my heart and with much appreciation, thank you!!!
