Red Wing Blackbird (rough mix from album)
License To Love You (early unmixed demo)
This record is the fulfillment of a dream I have had since childhood. I was never formally trained on an instrument, but as a child I learned a few chords and how to sing from the heart from the nuns at St. Mary's. After living in Los Angeles for two decades, I returned to my roots here in the Midwest. The return to my childhood home brought with it a surge in creativity, and I began to write songs. With the help of the awesome people at The Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, I found my voice.
I am a special education teacher, and I have witnessed firsthand how music can transform lives, can bring joy and meaning to anyone. I have worked on these recordings little by little in the last six months because I have, to this point, funded this project by myself. I can tell you this much, three and four year old's love the upbeat songs (my most honest critics!!), and would dance wildly to the unmixed demos!
With your help I can complete this project and give it the attention to detail that I believe it deserves! I think you will like it, too.
In the event I raise more than I am asking for, I will give 10% toward buying musical instruments for my classroom!
Risks and challenges
A unique challenge that is already arising in me has nothing to do with the production of the record. It is more an existential problem-If this is successful, where does this leave me? Who am I now in this phase of life? I never thought about these questions because my identity has been so tied into being a special education teacher.
My backers are guaranteed the record, what is not guaranteed is where I go from here. I have already taken a lot of risks just getting to this point, which has given me the confidence to want to make ANOTHER record!
Have a question? If the info above doesn't help, you can ask the project creator directly.
