ABOUT THE PROJECT
Our mission is unique. We want to create a national network ( one which covers a whole country!) of shared creative spaces for makers and entrepreneurs. Innovator Creative Spaces kicks off from the Bulgarian Sea capital Varna. The goal is to create a collaborative network of shared creative centres, combining the features of prototyping facilities and maker spaces, across the whole country. The main focus is to provide shared, hi-tech workshops for software development, hardware prototypes and works in different technical, scientific and cultural fields.
The long term goal – turn Innovator – Creative Spaces into a national network of mini-tech parks, which has modern equipment for prototyping and production laboratories, focused on digital technology, electronics and production technologies, but not only. The main goal is to turn it into the most up-to-date, private (non-governmental) and managed by the public, centre in Bulgaria, as part of our initiative to turn Bulgaria into a modern and Global technological centre, into the Silicon Valley of Eastern Europe. The regional characteristics and needs for each location will be taken into consideration.
We want to attract entrepreneurial and creative people and to contribute for the implementation and development of innovations in the local and national economy.
The main activity of the innovation and technology Academy(part of the project) is to organise courses about hardware and software development, entrepreneurship, business, that could help young people turn their ideas into successful businesses.
Besides the main goal of Innovator – Creative Spaces – to contribute to the development of innovations and entrepreneurship – the team behind the project sees other potential advantages – building a friendly, encouraging, educational and supportive environment for qualitative, professional realisation and competitive power, which would enable specialists to enjoy a higher standard of living, achieved by qualification training and mentorship. Youth unemployment, inactivity and low motivation is a Global problem. We want to tackle it in a new attractive and creative way.
We want to create a network of creative spaces in Bulgaria, where aspiring makers, tech-enthusiasts, young entrеpreneuers and researchers/scientists will have access to the tools and creative environment they need to design, make, hack, invent and learn. Our kickstarter campaign is aimed at helping us in opening the first location in the coastal town of Varna, which will be pilot(test) venue.
Our long term plan though, aims at building creative spaces in different regions of Bulgaria.

We don’t want to bother you with so many details and numbers, but let’s take a look of our thoughts on this issue. We will use the money to buy some of the equipment and to cover part of the renovations in our first location, in Varna, since 25k $ is the needed money to fill the gaps in our budget and finnish our space.
Part of the support for our project comes from Varna City Municipality and European Youth Capital Varna. Grants consisting of 30 000 BGN were given.
Our full budget consists of: 1. Equipment and tools – the biggest part will go down for buying the needed equipment 2. Workspace expenses-administrative, maintenance and rent costs, staff salaries for approximately one year. 3. Marketing and media promotion for initial popularization. 4. Workshops and events – organizing the first wave of cool event and courses. 5. Interior design and furniture – yeah, we want it to look pretty as well. 6. Others
We catched the eye of several bulgarian medias.
In the beggining we said that we want to build a national network of creative spaces, but this campaign's goal is only 25 000 dollars. Why? As we stated above, this is the amount needed to fill the gaps in our budget for the first space. Once we reach the goal, we will continue campaigning and each dollar above that goal will be invested in building the next spaces - in Burgas, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Vratsa, Sofia and/or for improving the first one. Or we can simply reach out again to the kickstarter community and fund our next stages (if needed). We wanted to be safe, because as you know kickstarter is all-or-nothing. That is how we can secure our milestone at 25 thousand and continue if we create enough buzz around the campaign.
To sum it up guys, don't stop after the 25 thousand dollars goal. Every dollar will be invested in expanding and improving our network.
How we will manage “to stay above the water” after you fund our project? By a simple, but effective business plan. For this reason we are going to combine prototyping facility + maker space(with own special workspace) on one hand, and co-working space and mini-office area on the other hand. The prototyping center will operate for the purpose of innovating, hacking, designing, creating awesome projects. The standard co-working and mini-office area will play the role of main source of income. Local IT specialists, designers and other professionals will rent out working space. Also we will try to integrate some paid services for companies, business model, but keep the social and community driven spirit of most of the stuff we offer.
Revenue will come from:
1. Co-working guys paying membership fees(using the regular co-working area)
2. Cool people renting out our offices(in the office area, equipped by us)
3. Great hackers/makers/creators/inventors paying membership fees for using the equipment and the special co-working area for them
4. Passers-by who pay to use particular tools or equipment or who want from us to complete orders (to laser print their favourite photo for example)
5. Local businesses with errands
6. Combinations between the above-for example “co-worker” who is also a hacker/maker/inovator and has “hacker/creator/inovator membership”.
7. Paid classes - which provide more than 50 percent of the income for lots of makerspaces in their early stages, and are a fundamental part of them. Classes train new people, they provide an easy gateway into the space for those who don’t have projects but want to get involved somehow. They offer local craftspeople a new way to use their craft to make a sustainable income as instructors, and they raise the skill level of your community dramatically over time. These classes include paid workshops on design, engineering, electronics, programming or machining, and are organized (only for fundraising purposes) aside from free classes/workshops.
8. Grants and donations of equipment or money from different institutions and individuals. Donations can help aid general income in the early stages of makerspaces development, and can help acquire specific tools and infrastructural projects in later stages of development.(already have received some support by local companies).
9. Renting out space for commercial events that delve into the same area.

Let's do it together! Help innovation thrive all over the world! Help us change Bulgaria's ecosystem!
Risks and challenges
One of the risks is the project to be delayed by some of the renovation works. Construction and renovation have hidden challenges which are unveilled during the process. We are prepared to overcome them, with the experience we have managing projects and relying on our menthors - local architects and engineers who embraced our idea.
Another risk is delay of the equipment delivery, since the technology we want to use still is not so popular, and sometimes manufacturers produce it specially for you or are simply out of stock for a specific device/material. Not all companies deliver directly to Bulgaria or have representation here or in the Balkans. But we will overcome this with the help of our research and the companies who are dealing with high-end tech like 3d printers, etc., who already expressed desire to help us!
About the business itself. It is community driven and projects like this one depend not only on what you offer, but is there already a crowd that joined it. The answer to that is 99% yes. We already sparked enough interest not only in Varna, but in the whole country, so we believe we will easily create a community around our center/s. Furthermore, we do not start from scratch. There is a great tech community already in Bulgaria and we think it will embrace our idea.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
