Brambleton Threads began as a blog in 2015 chronicling my adventures in the fiber arts. It has since expanded to a small business making custom quilts, clothing, and other one-off pieces. To celebrate I plan to hand-embroider an original one-off piece of wall art for each element in the periodic table, up to one hundred and eighteen pieces, depending on the response from the Kickstarter community. Each piece will be embroidered on a 4" hoop, backed by a heavy fabric, and embedded with a metal ring so that the piece may be hung as wall-art.
This project will be backed if eighteen elements are funded, but my goal is to make a series consisting of one hundred and eighteen elements--the entire table, not just the first three rows--and disperse them throughout the world.
Before I engage in such a large project I'm looking to the Kickstarter community to gauge interest and seek support.
Since the element series has yet to begin, I am including below pictures of the embroidery work I have been doing the past six months:
Each piece will be inspired by an element; it will not necessary depict the element, although it may.
Please message me with any questions and thanks for looking.
Risks and challenges
One of the main risks and challenges of this project is the time element. Since I will be designing and making all pieces by myself and making each piece by hand, each piece of hand-embroidery may take a week or more from design to completion. I am prepared to overcome these challenges by giving myself an ample amount of time to return the rewards to the backers, as well as by staying in constant communication with the backers as the project progresses. I plan to post updates throughout: from fabric ordering to finished pieces.
Another potential risk and challenge for this project is burnout. By working on so many pieces of embroidery I risk getting fatigued. I plan to overcome this potential risk and challenge by factoring in more time than I will need so that I may come to each piece as fresh as possible. I will factor in time for moments of inspiration in nature so that I may limit the possibility of this potential risk.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
