Pity we missed the goal, perhaps next time you could try marketing the product a bit better. I only saw one bit of info on the web about the project.
sorry it didn't work out. 338 people wanting it but still not enough. hope you come back with it even better
Agree with the other backers, headphone port on the front is useless for me (although I'm sure it will be a godsend for many others!), But if this had an SD Card port it, I would gladly pay far more & it would become a must buy!
SD port back in the front. I agree with Unicorn RX 0
I really hope you get enough backers, it is an interesting product!
Personally, I would love to see the SD card reader moved forward. I can live without the audio.
To Thomas, if you want multiple USB slots, without audio option, for legacy models, there are other kickstarter projects to back. #justsaying
I am a little confussed. You said that in earlier user testing you found enough people who frequently used headphones and did not care about the internal speakers functioning. Wouldn't that imply that they had the headphones always connected and typicall hung at the back of the monitor or on the side when not on their heads. if so, why do they need the audio port in the from. I think putting it there actually defeats the whole purpose of this device. I love using headphones in the evening or when doing other work. But at normal times when I need to get things done, I want to be able to hear the notification noises from the computer (time anouncement, skype incoming calls, etc) when I am around the office but not in front of the computer. I believe most people uses headphones and internal speakers each about 50% of the time, with the device it means to use the headphones after using the speakers I have to connect it into the audio port and then the headphones into it (thus making two connections) to use the speakers. That seems counterproductive and actually more work. The other option is to keep the heaphones always connected to the device and just disconnect the audio cable from the iMac when I want to use the internal speakers (that would be no different from just disconnecting the headphone if connected in the back) Thus, I still have the same problem, needing to turn around the iMac, or reach behind and randomly try to unplug and plug in the audio cable with both methods.
I think having another usb in front, allowing to connect external CD burners or more power hungry HD needing two USB ports, would be more useful in the long run.
Even if you do not agree, my other question was, does the audio cable when connected interferr with the use of the SD port? From the pictures it appears so, and it looks like it will be even harder to plug in a SD card.
Also, as mentioned, focusing on the newest model only makes it really hard. I have an older model and backed this with the hopes you will be designing for the older model as well, if not I will probably need to cancel my pledge. As mentioned, at an average price of $23 dollars, you will need almost 1100 backers to get you pledge goal. when you focus only on the newer model, you really limit your market.
To everyone asking for other versions, we would love to be able to make a version for everything, but each different design requires a new investment in tooling and minimum order quantity. So, we are starting with one version for now. If we are successfully backed, we plan on extending the product line to support other devices. Thanks to everyone for your support! Hopefully we will be able to produce products to satisfy everyone's needs in the future!
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. The headphone jack functionality is an unfortunate reality of the way the iMac is designed. We've been looking for a software solution that would allow for manual switching between headphones and internal speakers but have not found anything; it may be impossible. In our early user testing we found that there were enough people that frequently used headphones and did not care about the internal speakers functioning that we decided it was a good feature to include. This is especially true in work environments.
Please don't take these comments as negative but constructive feedback. I am a backer by the way.
- Being that this is a very low ticket item, the funding goal is really high and seeing many other projects fail, I have noticed that unless it is a mass market item, it might be highly unlikely to reach your goal of 25K. I REALLY HOPE I AM WRONG!
- You have a small market of users who have newer version of 27" iMac of which those who use kick starter is probably even smaller. If somehow you are able to expand this product to include at least past 3 maybe 4 previous version of iMac, it will grow you market and uptake on this.
- I also agree with Thomas below about the audio port connected at all times, which sort of negates the accessibility point upfront, if I still have to disconnect the cable from back to get my built-in speakers working.
Hope this helps and I really hope you guys success as this is an excellent idea.
Also, would it be possible from the Snowmous audio cable to connect in the left hand side of the device when looking at it from the back of the iMac. The way it looks now, it seems that the cables coming out from the back will be in the way when attempting to reach back and connect an SD card.
My problem with the audio jack being forward, is it automatically disconnects the internal speakers. If that is the case then headphones will have to be constant connected. Is they are always connected, what is the advantage of having the port in the front as connected in the back and running under the monitor to the front would be just as clean looking. And if I have to always disconnect the audio port from the back to use the internal speakers, how is that different from reaching back and connecting and disconnecting the headphones?
Yeah, but that doesn't have the audio port. We need a version for the 2009 style iMac that has 2 ports forward and both audio jacks. In silver of course.

Looking for a version to fit the 2010 IMac model, hoping enough people will also request this version
Oh, and I'd also like to get rid of "snowmous" branding on it, but maybe you don't ;-)
How about a version with just a single USB port and no audio port? I don't really need that and it would make this unit even smaller.
Backed, just bought an iMac 27inch last week. Would also be nice to have one of these for the SD card slot!
Just read Update 3.
Thanks for your time in answering my question.
I will tell all my friends about this project.
Good luck the rest of the way!!
i'd love to see this in an aluminum version.
Does this product correspond to USB 3.0?
+1 21.5" mid 2011 IMac great idea and if you get the funding I will have one
+1 For 27" mid 2011 iMac. I will also like to suggest you change your category to design product because i believe you may get more hits there rather than technology hardware. My 2 cents.
+1 For 27" mid 2011 iMac
Sorry, I meant November 2012.
Hi Dave, AccessIO is only compatible with the iMac from Oct 2012 to present.
Is this compatible with the Apple LED Cinema Display?
I've got a 27" model from mid-2011, and I'd absolutely love to have this! I use headphones once or twice a week, and it's a pain having to feel around the back for the headphone jack - and to avoid accidentally plugging into the line-in port.
I have a 21.5" 2009 model and I'd absolutely love to see this available for the model I have. I already gave a dollar, but I'd absolutely bump up to get one if I knew that a 2009 model compatible version would be available before funding completes.
I backed for a dollar -- 27 inch Cinema Display. I have a MacPro and hate that I have to jockey the monitor around to get to a usb port. Very awesome solution. I will upgrade the MacPro and buy whatever new Thunderbolt Display matches it. Thank you
Hi Wesley, we currently do not have a silver prototype for photography, but I believe we have a 3d rendering of the silver product that we can add to the page. As for the early backer pricing, the discount is a removal of the shipping cost, so we needed to limit that discount to domestic shipping since we are based in the US.
Great Idea!!! I ordered two. One for my Mac and one for my son's.
You have to do this for the 2009 series they sell well most people have this model than the new one
2009 27" Please (Silver)
If I plug this into an imac will sound still come out of the main speakers or will it just go straight to the headphones
Great project, always annoyed me about the imac design! Can we get a picture of the silver one?
Also, what's with having early bird pricing for US citizens only?
