An adaptation of the Czech folk tale of Vodnik. This story is about shining the light on the shadow that lurks in all of us.

Vodnik - The Muse and the Master is an adaptation of a Czech folktale inspired by time passed in the Slavic countryside. The water sprite, or Vodnik, who is believed to drown the disenchanted and capture their souls, represents the shadow that lurks in all of us and the treasures under the swamp lands of our souls.

Sometimes, looking into the darkness guides us to the light. Just as Red, a young and beautiful aspiring model/actress is convinced she is connected and will strike big, she awakens to find herself lost, broken and disenchanted from a horrific night of partying that she can't seem to precisely recall.

Misa, the make-up artist is the only one Red can trust and recommends that she seek help in the form of hypnosis in order to unlock the mystery of her amnesia. She reluctantly begins treatment with Dr. Ragnar, a therapist who specializes in Regression Hypnotherapy.  Upon recollection of a past life trauma, Red begins to unravel the source of her reoccurring nightmares and anxiety attacks.  The feelings she experiences during therapy start to parallel her waking reality.  As she slides deeper, she channels Ruby, a young orphan who becomes the heroine of Red's subconscious. In Ruby's quest to retrieve the only souvenir of her mother's, a musical locket, she encounters Sydnik, a charming and rather odd man who obliges to aid her in her search.

As Red zooms in on the truth, events in her subconscious state grow darker and more perilous.  Dr. Ragnar must lead Red through the in between worlds so that she may be free of this affliction, which could take her life.  Stepanka Peterka and Lindsay Paige star as Red and Ruby, alongside Andrew Harrison as Syd, the Vodnik.  Matt Donahue's fairytale noir premieres summer 2012.

The past life portion of the movie was shot throughout this summer, 2011.  With the help via Kickstarter we are planning to raise the necessary funds to produce the final portion of this epic and dark fairytale this fall in Portland, Oregon.  Please help this project come to life with your support.

Thanks,

Matt Donahue
