About

I have got the hope that one of you, seeing this video, will find at least a little of the wonder and the emotions felt by those who have been lucky enough to visit the Sammezzano castle and who consequently fell in love with it. Almost nobody in the world knows, but the Sammezzano Castle is the most important example of Orientalist art and eclectic present in Italy and one of the most prestigious buildings of Europe made in the Moorish style. A wonderful treasure trove of 300 rooms full of mysteries and esoteric symbols of extreme beauty that make it unique. A charming manor from the mystique air that is located just outside of Florence, in the heart of the beautiful Tuscany. And yet, despite its incomparable artistic and historical value, the Sammezzano castle continues to be an "Invisible" place, a monument to the unknown world and virtually inaccessible. A monument that seems to be subject to an absurd, timeless curse. Just as its story is sad and full of misfortunes: in fact during the Second World War the Nazis raided it stealing statues and fountains and defacing the beautiful ornamentation. In the 50's the castle was transformed into a luxury hotel, but failed in 1990. Then, after a period of closure and abandonment, in 1999 it was bought at auction by an Italian-English society with the aim of making it a resort luxury. But even the last years have been marked by abandonment and closure of the castle. Only thanks to a group of volunteers the castle was made accessible to the lucky few who were able to attend rare visits and to do that they have flocked from all over the Europe. And now, as if the events were repeated endlessly, as if really a curse hovered invisible on this sad story, October 20 Sammezzano castle will again be auctioned. The auction will cost 20 million euros and, at best, the Castle will be bought by some wealthy collector of old houses that will enjoy privately the wonders it contains. At worst however, that most likely, no one will buy it and the Castle will continue to remain in a state of abandonment and be neglected until it is more feasible and safe. I hope, I hope that some of you could help me collect 40 million euros to buy and renovate finally the Sammezzano castle so it can be a museum open to all who want to visit. A museum that will in no way be exclusive, a museum whose entry ticket has only symbolic value, a museum that is considered heritage of all citizens of the world. Because this is the Sammezzano Castle: a beautiful diamond that belongs to everyone and that, despite its beauty, has not yet managed to shine. In my heart I know that, for those who we can be and how hard we can do, it is almost impossible to collect 40 million. If so, I still hope that this gesture will help achieve at least some selfless people or some institution that purchases the castle in order to renew it and make it a place open to all those who love art and culture, and to all those who believe that some dreams, as snaps and improbable at times, can be realized. I hope, and I hope not to be the only one to do it.

Risks and challenges

The first issue I might encounter is not to be able to buy the castle since other auctioneers may offer a larger amount of money compared to the one I have at my disposal. That is the reason why it is so essential for me to get as many founds as possible. Even if this is a risk, you must take into consideration that the history of the estate suggests that it is unlikely to have a real competition during the auction.
The second issue I will have to face is to ensure that the renovation of the castle will be taken care of by professional workers. In regards to this matter I already contacted a history of art professor employed at the University of Florence who is willing to introduce me to the right people for this job.
The final and most daring issue is to transform the site in an open museum. The main concern is obviously the visibility of the area and the quantity of users willing to visit the castle and its park. I estimated that the cost of administration will be minimum since a large number of volunteers already involved in the preservation of the castle, as well as many new ones, are interested in keeping up with their amazing job for the sheer joy of salvaging such an important historical site.
My confidence is supported by the incredible amount of people interested in visiting the castle during the rare times it has been opened in the last few years.
Besides the castle is located nearly Florence, where already there are millions of turist.
For these reasons is reasonable to assume that, if the castle will be renovated and opened to the public, the number of tourist will be satisfactory.
