The Proof is in the Pudding:
1. FABRIC- Function meets fashion. Our new generation of performance spandex is strong, flexible and forgiving. It would be perfection in the best-ever yoga pant but equally remarkable in a beautiful dress. Our fabric is machine washable and dryable, wrinkle-free, shrink-proof, fade-proof, odor-resistant, cross-seasonal, stretches for comfort and smoothes and hides bumps.
2. FINISHES- A stitch in time saves nine. Made using the finest materials including genuine YKK zippers, the quality and durability of our collection is second to none. Our fabric has a silken finish that really performs. The result is a long-lasting garment that will be in your fashion arsenal for many years to come.
3. FIT- Fits like a glove. Our fuss-free styles are easy to wear and boast a perfect fit for every body. Our super stretchy fabric and structured designs result in effortlessly flattering silhouettes. Let us assure you, there were no shortcuts to achieving this perfection.
4. HOMEGROWN- Wearing our hearts on our sleeves. 100% Made in America. From the fabric to the printers and the labels to the tags, everything in our collection is domestically produced and directly supports small businesses and independent artists.
5. PHILOSOPHY- Life’s too short to wear boring clothes. Smak Parlour is all about fun. Transforming original works of art from local artists into repeat prints using the latest technology of textile sublimation, we are producing our own one-of-a-kind fabrics...with plenty of print play!
Work the room and conquer the world in our beautiful dress that flaunts haute architectural details. With perfectly placed darts, this stretchy, yet structured dress sculpts a flattering hourglass silhouette. You will radiate style without sacrificing comfort. Invisible YKK zipper.
Collaborating artist: Philadelphia-based street artist, Joe Boruchow. We took Boruchow’s most iconic street art images and manipulated them into never-ending prints. The result of the repeat print on our burlesque-inspired Fan Dancers Dress is a captivating and visually pleasing balance of positive and negative space.
Boruchow's flower and butterflies image inspired our Olivia Rose Dress. With a romantic edge, our repeat print is abloom with fierce femininity.
Featuring a figure-flattering cut with a flirty flare, this top will have you looking sweet and svelte. The final cut of this darling top was painstakingly perfected with princess seams and tulip sleeves to show off a feminine, complimentary silhouette. Large busts, don't be shy. Do try! Give your body the shape you desire with this perfect piece.
Collaborating artist: beloved Smak Parlour employee, Chelsea Goich. With a flair for fashion and illustration, her designs embody the Smak Parlour spirit with fun and nostalgia. We were able to vectorize Chelsea's sketches into repeat prints. Our Hello Dolly Peplum Top is a whimsical, fun, girlie, vintage-inspired print replete with dramatic angles and delightful plays on color, with hand-drawn polka dots holding it all together.
Not only are cherries, strawberries and watermelon halves delicious and sweet, they make the cutest print...especially when the seeds are hearts! Our Heart Fruit Peplum Top is an adorable way to get your fashion fruit fix. We are cherry much in love!
Feminine with an edge, a striped ribbed knit waistband and exposed YKK metal zipper cleverly top off this pretty fit and flare skater skirt. It is simply twirl-inducing! Universally flattering, the high waist fit makes your legs look longer and the loose flared fit creates the illusion of a slimmer waistline and slimmer hips.
Collaborating artist: Philadelphia artist and graphic designer, Dave Holley. His "What If" Philadelphia skyline painting is part of the permanent collection of art in the famous Wanamaker building in downtown Philadelphia. The Chevron Skater Skirt was inspired by the bold designs on our fashion truck. The classic black and white pattern brings a mod appeal and graphic intensity to this darling wardrobe staple.
We’re on top of it--this is the top you need now! To be dressed up, dressed down and worn year-round, this bold and edgy tent blouse has effortlessly cool style on lockdown. The liquid jersey fabric drapes perfectly on all body types and the sleeves fall just-so to flatter arms. Looks adorable tucked into a high-waisted skirt or left untucked over shorts...and the stamp-like pattern looks rad mixed with other prints!
Imprinted on the wrap of our fashion truck, Holley's iconic image is a playful nod to Philadelphia and was also our best-selling screen print. The image was hailed as a conversation-starter so naturally this Liberty Heart Bell Tent Blouse was designed to exude a confident, casual-cool.

FABRICS--FINISHES--FIT Performance Spandex has been found in endurance sportswear for years, but our refined version of the fabric bears no resemblance to your ex-boyfriend's bicycle togs (or, their predecessor, football pants.) The new generation textile we are creating with this collection fits and wears like the very best yoga pants, while it drapes and flows like a beautiful dress.

Although our boutique, Smak Parlour, began as a sewing parlour for our in-house label “Smak” in 2005, it's been nearly five years since we last designed a cut and sew clothing collection. In honor of a decade of success in our Old City, Philadelphia location, we are celebrating our tenth birthday by getting back to our roots. After all, sometimes looking to the past is the best way to move into the future...and the future's so bright.
Why did you stop designing?
2009 was a tough time for small businesses everywhere. We had to adapt to the economic climate so we brought in many different affordable indie brands to offer our customers options at different price-points. As designers, we also felt the constraints of being too small to have fabric choices (that is, before sublimation was available to us)!
But NOW with this new technology:
We can create original clothing because we are designing the prints! We spent over a year researching the most durable fabric and perfecting our patterns. Through crowd funding, we have an opportunity to create higher volume in order to get fair pricing on bulk fabric and manufacturing costs.

Risks and challenges
We have been in business for ten years, and have produced clothing collections for five of those years. Having worked with large manufacturers and small tailors, we understand things can go wrong in production. We live close to our manufacturers and are able to oversee and inspect our goods. This means we can catch mistakes before they spiral out of control! We have always stood strongly behind our products! We have allowed three months for production and are confident in our timeline. We’re not saying it’s going to be easy, we’re saying it’s going to be totally worth it!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
