On a trip throughout Asia, Christian and Kilian Rosier realized that they didn't have a shoe versatile enough to go from the beach to the bars. Flip flops are ideal for the beach, but aren't accepted in many venues, while alternative closed toe shoes are heavy and unstylish. Wanting to fill this void, they set out to create a lightweight shoe that was extremely comfortable and could be worn in multiple settings.
Patara designs comfortable and stylish shoes inspired by the tropics. We sell our handmade shoes in limited runs and carefully select each textile we use. Over half of the fabrics used in our first order are handwoven and sourced from weaving collectives around the world.
We believe in fair trade and supporting communities by promoting their local skills and traditions. By supporting this Kickstarter campaign, you will play a vital role in bringing Patara to life. We want to support the craftsmen who make our shoes and the weavers who make our fabric.
This Kickstarter will ensure that they are paid a fair wage and allow us to fund our first order and get them to San Diego. We understand that waste comes along with production. This is why we are committed to the use of as many sustainable materials as possible. Our shoes are made with organic cotton fibers, jute outsole bumpers, and insoles which are lined with a natural cork layer ensuring breathability in the warmest of climates.
We believe that many of life’s most valuable experiences are gained through travel. While exploring the globe, we have met some amazing people, discovered surreal landscapes, and most importantly, we have grown from these experiences. Often our most memorable and unexpected moments would happen while in the pursuit of another destination. As our buddy J.R.R Tolkien said:
“Not all those who wander are lost”
Patara doesn't directly translate into English, but roughly means auspicious or good fortune in Thai. Something we at Patara wish for everyone while traveling or in their everyday life.
Thanks for your support! Wander on!
How it works:
Check out the shoes below, click the green button at the top of the page that says "Back This Project", and select the reward level corresponding to the products you want. (If you would like, you may donate more than the reward level.)
We'll email you a survey when the campaign is over to ask for your size and color choice.
The V6 is a conveniently sized, insulated bottle that is perfect for shorter missions or when a water source is readily available. Throw in a couple of ice cubes and head out for a hike, or take those last few cups of coffee left in the pot to work to get you through the morning.
If we reach $60,000, we will be offering our backers a 25% discount on our insulated Mizu bottles that will retail on our site for $32! You will be able to get these awesome bottles that keep drinks cold for 24 hours and hot for 12 hours for just $24!
Choose Your Style:
Our shoes are made in US sizes. If you are looking for your size in EU or UK, please check the chart to find the corresponding size.
How Patara sizes run: Pataras run true to size. Our Seeker Slip On runs a little smaller.
Please note: Our Seeker Slip On uses a slightly narrower last for a snug, barefoot fit so If you don't have wide feet, select the size that you normally wear. If you have wide feet or like a little more room with the Seeker Slip On please size up one.
If you wear a half size: If you wear a half size, round up to the next size. For example, if you wear US 8.5, your best fit is likely an 9.
If you have wide feet: If you have wide feet, we suggest buying an entire size up. For example, if you typically wear 8, you should probably get an 9.
If you have wide feet and wear a half size: If you have wide feet and wear a half size, you should round up 1.5 sizes. For example, if you wear 7.5 and have wide feet, we suggest ordering size 9.
If you wear a number of different sizes: If, for example, you wear an 7 in some brands and 8 in others and don't know which one to base your size off of, you should probably go with the larger size 8.

Risks and challenges
Footwear production involves a lot of moving parts before we get a finished product. Naturally there are risks and challenges that must be recognized and overcome.
Our process starts with sourcing raw materials, then crafting them into shoes. Thankfully, all our materials for the first order have arrived in our factory and are ready to be made into shoes. We have already allocated a schedule with the factory and are ready to go. If we should receive far more funding than our goal, delivery may be take longer than expected. We are confident we will be able to meet demand and are dedicated to great customer service, and will always keep you updated.
These are skilled craftsmen at every station who take pride in their work. Materials and components are inspected and tested separately and as a finished product to assure quality control at every stage of production.
Once production is completed, we will then have to import the product to our warehouse here in San Diego. There is always the risk of delays in transit and customs clearance but we are doing everything to ensure a smooth delivery.
At Patara we understand that there are always risks but we believe our skill and our willingness to work hard will allow us to fulfill any order with no problem.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
