*I hope to be able to spend as much time as I can from May-August producing this film. The more support I receive the more time I'll be able to spend making it as good as I possibly can*
Here is the a brief recap project. Inspired by my 2 pet whippets, In September 2015, I decided to make my first animation puppet made from (and ONLY from) junk i found in my tool box. I decided to not use sketches or designs before or during the process. I wanted the character to be born from the materials and the movements she would need to make. The result was BITZ, an experiment into form and functionality. The armature (often hidden in animation) became part of the design.
I have done a few other experimental animation projects over the following year but I would like to return to my original (and most popular) creation to finish her story. Originally I did a few test films that loosely fit together into a story and put these, plus some other ideas, into a storyboard. These will be a starting point for a new film.
I hope to complete the film in 3 months (May- August) I am looking to this campaign to support several costly (time & money) areas;
1* Materials and time to develop and upgrade the old puppet (she is currently falling apart and is very heavy). Several areas need research and processes to make Bitz more animatable.
2* Materials to build an appropriate filming rig and animation stage.
3* New tripods and lighting.
4* Possible hiring of a studio space.
5* Time needed animate/re-film the sequences. (24 frames per second.... it... takes... ages!)
6* Editing and post poroduction
* Hire of a composer to add an original score.
* Submission fees (needed to be considered for festivals.)
I hope to start work on the project in May '17. The result will be a 3 min short animation celebrating the wonder of whippets.
Risks and challenges
The challenge of this project comes from animating a 'diy' puppet made from only junk. As you can see from the test sequences this IS possible. But I hope to make the film that results from this campaign slicker and more accomplished. The time and money afforded from any support will allow me to do this.
There is some risk but whatever happens there WILL be a film. The puppet design exists already and I have some experience in producing work under a tight timescale.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
