"Pirate Carrds", is a deck of 52 pirate themed playing cards that are all illustrated by Don Maitz. Maitz has some incredible pirate artwork that needs to be utilized! Him and I are working together on this project, he supplies the art and I turn them into carrds. He created the logo, and we mutually design the layout of everything. We may continue to explore some templates, but check out some of the current examples at least:

 The Deck will contain:

-52 playing cards

-2 Jokers

-1 Artist Card

-1 Website card

We need your interest in order for us to publish these!! The money raised will help cover our production costs. We would like to release more sets, and keep on adding to the collection. Ideally these will be an ongoing, collectible product as we expand. A deck of playing cards, where you can mix and match which ones you like most, and fill the deck with your favorites. We are starting with one initial set here (volume 1).

If we are successful in releasing this product, Don Maitz will continue to paint pirates, like Chrispy here:

Some of the artwork is based upon real people, and others are simply drawn from Don's imagination.

Perhaps you would like to become a pirate card one day? Anything is possible if we can get this ship afloat. Maitz is willing to paint more people within the pirate genre. We would have further information on that if this deck succeeds, but it all starts right here, right now. We will need your support in order for us to develop the concept!

If we reach the goal, and you pledged... you will have your deck(s)! We will print enough cards to at least satisfy our Kickstarter pledges, so kickstarter is the best way to guarantee product and to help us ensure the future of Pirate Carrds.

We are also offering signed cards and Art prints by Don Maitz. Take a look at the different pledge levels to see the details. Please visit Don Maitz's website- with a few of the pledge options you will receive a painting (print) from it. You may choose whatever image you want from his watercolor section. The watercolors used for all of these Pirate carrds stem from here:  http://www.paravia.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=10_21_15

Don Maitz is an American artist whose imaginative paintings have received worldwide acclaim and awards including two of science fiction's Hugo awards, a World Fantasy award, ten Chesley awards, and the Society of Illustrators' Silver Medal. Maitz originated the Captain Morgan Spiced Rum character, launching the product to international popularity. His unsurpassed renditions of sea rovers and buccaneers have been published by National Geographic, appeared on the History Channel, and hung in museums nationally.

So we invite you to hop aboard, and to join us in this pirate adventure.

Stretch Goal #1: $4,000 (CHECK!) Status: Complete

Dogfish Briggins
Dogfish Briggins

If we can get to the $4,000 mark, I will be able to afford a new painting for this current deck. I want to show you the process of how a simple picture can become a magnificent Maitz watercolor. This is a photo that we are allowed to use, and lets face it... it would make one heck of a card, ideally the 6 of spades (6 shooters). There are tons of people I would like to get into these decks, so lets see your support, and we will surely paint some more of you scalawags!

Stretch Goal #2: $6,000

Pirate Games
Pirate Games

If we can hit $6,000, I will email you all a .PDF of 6 pirate themed card games I have created. There is a "Book of Pirate Card Games" in the making, and I got about 15 games made up so far. What better way to use your Pirate Carrds than with some cool unique Pirate games?! Here is one for you regardless. Thank you for the support so far!

Risks and challenges

I have used Kickstarter 3 times before, and was able to produce on each attempt. Everyone got their product! The main risks I hope to not encounter are the following. A) You do not enjoy the product... which in this case it is pretty straightforward- a deck of carrds. We are printing through the United States Playing Card Company (USPC), so the quality should be there, as long as I submit everything correctly. I do have experience with this however, as I made a card game called "Raiding Parties" which looks great, and I plan to replicate the submission process. B) The product somehow gets lost at sea from the Manufacturer, or there is an error in the print. I assure you that I will do my part, so let us hope that the USPC does theirs. They have a great reputation and I am excited to work with them.
