NEW Stretch Goal Zombies!! You Earned 'Em!
Welcome to Pittsville
Not such a bad place... until the Zompocalypse hit. Now everyone is either dead, green or heading for the hills, leaving you as the only eligible edible brain for 100 miles. Your only hope is to fix up an old broken down jeep and high tail it out of there before the wormsuits mob you. If you can dig up enough spare parts, ammo and courage, you just might make it out alive. So get out there, start scroungin' and don't stop shootin'! Or, throw in with the zombies and race to shut down all the escape routes before the human can make his getaway. Just keep jamming corpses in there until you dogpile your dinner - then open up the brain buffet! Either way, pick a side and get a move on, because if it's one thing you can say about these rampaging, ravenous undead, they're...
Relentless is a 2 (or more) player human vs. zombie card game, quick to learn, easy to play and loads of brain-eating fun for all ages. Games typically last 20-30 min, are chock full of frantic action and nail-biting tension and successfully (and safely) playtested with 8 year olds and up. Relentless can easily accomodate 3, 4, 5 or even 6 or more players (just pick a side and jump in!) and offers tons of variety with different Game Variants and Deviants, including team, co-op and even a solo version!
The game is designed and created by Crucifiction Games in the tiny, Pittsville-like town of Selah, Washington - we even took our background pictures here to capture that rustic, small town feel! CFG has been around for over 10 years, producing our unique brand of horror-comedy products, including the "Horror Rules" RPG, novels, conventions, e-products and more. One of our novels ("Midnight Snack") has even been optioned for a major motion picture release and is currently in pre-production! Relentless is 3 years in the making and we are proud to place it on Kickstarter so that our fans can finally join in all the fun and frolic the Zompocalypse has to offer.
Players first figure out who is the Human and who is the Zombie. After a quick fight over being the Zombie (because everyone wants to be the Zombie) each player gets his own separate and specific deck of cards, shuffles and gets ready for the Zompocalypse. Zombies go first, as always - after all, this whole thing was their idea. On their turn, each player gets three Actions: an Action is either drawing or playing a card. They can perform any combination of the two during their turn (as long as it totals three). It's that simple! Or is it...?!
The Human's goal is to make it out of Pittsville in his (not-so) trusty and currently broken-down jeep. To get the jeep working he'll need to collect 4 tires, a battery, a gas can, and a steering wheel and install them so that he can escape before the hordes block off all exits from town.
The whole time, the Human must also scrounge for ammo to blast away at the ravenous undead, using a 9mm pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, Molotov cocktails and whatever else he can put his hands on. Rumor has it there might even be a grenade lying around - all you have to do is find it... (Check out the Human Deck Demo video below for details on all cards!)
The Zombie’s goal is even simpler: block off all three Escape Routes out of town before the jeep is fixed. To do this, he'll use every last undead at his disposal, which is a lot: Regular Zombies, Fast Zombies, Big Zombies and the ridiculously terrifying Biggest Freakin' Zombie You've Ever Seen (aka the "BFZ"), each with it's own unique abilities and powers. For each Escape Route the Zombie can fully block off, the Human loses one of his Actions, bogging down his scroungin', fightin' and especially his fixin'. With all the advancing, shooting, piling on and desperate, nail-biting searching, things can get pretty hectic in ol' Pittsville. (Check out the Zombie Deck Demo video below for details on all cards!)
Making Things Interesting
Of course, things can't be TOO simple. After all, it's the Zompocalypse, remember?! In the middle of all the rushing and blasting away, both sides will encounter a variety of special effects cards, which will alter the course of play. Some of these are good, some are bad, and some will really make your opponent pucker. Either way, for the clever and resourceful they can add multiple layers of strategy. Or, you can just blast/chew away. The choice is yours.
The Basic Set, offered only at the $20 pledge level, is a perfectly fine, complete and ready-to-play game. It's got no frills and ships in a plain plastic box, but hey - you can still blast zombies, so it's all good! It includes the following:
- Human Deck (70 cards)
- Zombie Deck (62 cards)
- Instruction book
For the more "dead-icated" players, the Deluxe Box Edition offers a trunkload of extras that even the most desperate survivor scrounger would have trouble digging up. The Deluxe Box Edition is available at all pledge levels $30 and up and includes all the brain-savory goodies listed below:
- Deluxe Edition Box
- Human Deck (70 cards)
- Zombie Deck (62 cards)
- 4 Pocket Foam Insert with space for all cards and counters plus 2 expansions
- 1 Panic Counter
- 4 FUD Counters
- 5 Bullet Hit Tokens
- Hit/Miss Flipper
- Individual baggies to keep things tidy
And now for the good stuff (or in the case of the Zombies, the really stinky, bad, disgusting, nasty stuff): the Rewards! Your generous pledges for this project won't go to waste like so many infected townsfolk - instead, they'll net you some seriously cool, limited-edition promo stuff available only through this Kickstarter!
Character Cards add a whole new level of play for Relentless: "Survivors" for the Humans and "Zombie Masters" for the Zombies introduce leaders on both sides of the struggle, complete with SPECIAL POWERS and ABILITIES, new game mechanics and in some cases even special equipment and powerful new undead! They deepen the strategy, the mayhem and the fun and can really add a dose of spice to the Zompocalypse... like it needs it. While these Character Cards aren't due for release until much later, you can have some of 'em NOW... with the right pledge. Check out the special powers on the cards and then see 'em in action in the video demo below!
Take the Zompocalypse to the next level with these Kickstarter exclusive promo cards: the Big Molotov and the Graveyard! You won't find 'em in the regular decks, so if you want that extra edge, nab 'em now. The living will be sooooo jealous...
Yeah, it's fun to blast zombies. It's also fun to play zombies. But how would you like to BE a zombie?! To personalize your gaming experience we’re offering several pledge levels where you can create custom zombie cards to show off to your friends (and optionally devour them). This is an exciting one-time deal where you can get your own picture, zombie title and chatter on actual Relentless cards! Just dress up as a gooey walking dead, snap a photo and you're in! We'll even add an optional "art effect" (see sample below) for free. Or, doctor up the photo yourself on the incredibly cool (yet slightly disturbing) Website ZombieMe.com! The higher the pledge the more custom cards you get. Watch it there... you're drooling a little.
Zombies aren't the only thing we love at Crucifiction Games... we're also into gaming conventions and zombie walks, and we're supporting BOTH with this campaign. We're offering special promotional "Con Zombie" and "Zombie Walker" cards for various events through the country, uniquely customized for each event. Pledge at one of these levels and get the one-of-a-kind card for yourself, PLUS we'll donate some cool gamer stuff to your con or walk to help support the next one. Win-win! Heck, if you don't see your favorite event listed in the pledges, tell your organizers to contact us and we'll set something up.
Rewards are not all just about sweet Characters, exclusive Promo Cards and making yourself into a zombie... there's also autographs! And posters. And conventions. And... well, heck, just check out the list here for anything we missed up there. If it's in a Reward, you'll find it here!
"Got Brains?" Poster
It's a poster. Don't get too excited. It is, however, a pretty cool one. You'll only find it in the $10 Pledge.
The Horror Rules Mini-Con
Held in Yakima, WA, this 2-day gaming convention features scheduled and open gaming, contests, prizes, drawings, demos, premieres and enough board, card and RPG's to choke a zombie donkey. If you click this link, you can check it out on the official HR Mini-Con Website. If you get the free tickets in your pledge, you can check it out in person. That's a lot cooler.
Horror Rules, the Simply Horrible RPG
The Horror Rules RPG is based on horror-comedy movies like "Zombieland" and "Shaun of the Dead", has been around for over ten years, gathered lots of 5-star reviews and is STILL guaranteed to make you DIE laughing. Pledge high enough and grab some (or even all) the books, supplements and other merchandise. You'll never have more fun screaming and dying.
Graveyard Shift: the Adventures of Carson Dudley
This horror-comedy series of novels by Relentless designer Chris Weedin is the whole reason behind the card game... in fact, the Josh Zombie card in the zombie deck started the whole Zompocalypse in Pittsville! SPOILER ALERT!! Whoops, shoulda said that a little earlier... Anyhoo, if you wanna find out how this whole mess started, pledge a little extra and get an autographed copy of book 2 - "Another Rotten Night" and read all about it. But read with the lights on. It's scary. And the first book "Midnight Snack" is currently in pre-production for a full length movie, too!
Alright, now for the part you'll been waiting for: the Uber-Perks! To make this project even MORE fun we’ve come up with some great "everyone-gets-'em" goodies for our stretch goals. Check out the sweet (or rotten, depending on how you look at it) SWAG we've put on the table. And watch the hand as it pushes its way up from the grave - when it gets to $1,000, the goodies start flying! After that, the higher it goes, the more you get. Remember: only YOU can make this happen!
Relentless cards contain four unique "Regular Zombie" pictures... but 27 Regular Zombie cards! When this project funds, we'll reward everyone by kicking in an extra zombie. But we won't stop there! FOR EVERY $100 OVER TARGET, WE'LL ADD ANOTHER NEW ZOMBIE! And we'll keep doing it until they're ALL different. And when we're done with those, we'll move on to the 8 BIG Zombies... and then the 4 FAST Zombies! Keep your eye on the card trackers below and watch as we fill the whole town with colorful, unique and extremely moldy corpses.
$2,500 Stretch - Kickstarted Promo Cards!
At this level we'll offer two special "Kickstarted" Cards:
Kickstarted Zombie - a 3 Hit zombie that plays as a Free Action and does FUD effect every Turn (Human loses one Action)
Kickstarted Ride - a motorcycle! Alternate mode of escape that shuffles into deck. After you find it, you only need 4 parts (vs. 7 for the Jeep) to fix up and escape. Trouble is, it only holds two Survivors...
$3,000 Stretch - Poster Play Mat of Pittsville
A big old full color poster size layout of Pittsville, including spaces for cards, all three Escape Routes to map your progress (or doom) and some great visuals for the upcoming carnage. Viva la Undead!
But wait! There's more! Our love for zombies is boundless (and tasteless) and we've been cooking up some special video projects to celebrate this event. Featuring Dr. Rob of the Zombie Response Team, Zombie Sarge and hordes of hapless undead, these videos will help educate Human and Zombie alike for the upcoming battle. Check back weekly right here for the latest tongue-in cheek zom-tastic videos. You'll find some below, but still more are coming soon, including...
- Zombie Public Service Announcement #2 - "Know Your Zombies!"
- Zombie Boot Camp #2 - "Beating Barricades"
And here's a little teaser and a couple of stills from the set just to let you know what you're getting yourself into...

Risks and challenges
Making a streamlined process for collecting and processing the custom cards will require some work. We will need to clearly communicate with supporters the quality of the photos and dimensions they'll be submitting. We will also need to create a process for converting the pictures into custom cards. Thankfully, we have already started! We have a print-on-demand manufacturer for the cards, card templates and sample layouts and have already produced several custom card mock-ups as a trial run. Also, we've limited the number of custom cards so that things don't get away from us. Though challenging, it will also be one of the coolest parts of the project - seeing the zombified photos streaming in and coming to life (er, "death") on the cards. Sweet! Or rotten, depending on your viewpoint.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
