As a special reward, the first 200 backers of this project will receive the limited edition Character Cards of "Ex-Marine" and "Gruesome" absolutely FREE! These cards won't be available to other pledges until we hit the Stretch Goals... so don't wait, pledge now!
Character Cards add a whole new level of play, introducing SPECIAL POWERS and ABILITIES for both Zombie and Human and making Multiplayer Team Matches even more challenging and nail-biting.
Not such a bad place... until the Zompocalypse hit. Now everyone is either dead, green or heading for the hills, leaving you as the only eligible edible brain for 100 miles. Your only hope is to fix up an old broken down jeep and high tail it out of there before the wormsuits mob you. If you can dig up enough spare parts, ammo and courage, you just might make it out alive. So get out there, start scroungin' and don't stop shootin'! Or, throw in with the zombies and race to shut down all the escape routes before the human can make his getaway. Just keep jamming corpses in there until you dogpile your dinner - then open up the brain buffet! Either way, pick a side and get a move on, because if it's one thing you can say about these rampaging, ravenous undead, they're...
Relentless is a 2 (or more) player human vs. zombie card game, quick to learn, easy to play and loads of brain-eating fun for all ages. Games typically last 15-30 min, are chock full of frantic action and nail-biting tension and successfully (and safely) playtested with 8 year olds and up.
The game is designed and created by Crucifiction Games in the tiny, Pittsville-like town of Selah, Washington - we even took our background pictures there to capture that rustic, small town feel! CFG has been around for over 10 years, producing our unique brand of horror-comedy products, including the "Horror Rules" RPG, novels, conventions, e-products and more. One of our novels ("Midnight Snack") has even been optioned for a major motion picture release and is currently in pre-production! Relentless is 3 years in the making and we are proud to place it on Kickstarter so that our fans can finally join in all the fun and frolic the Zompocalypse has to offer.
Players first figure out who is the Human and who is the Zombie. After a quick fight over being the Zombie (because everyone wants to be the Zombie) each player gets his own separate and specific deck of cards, shuffles and gets ready for the Zompocalypse. Zombies go first, as always - after all, this whole thing was their idea. On their turn, each player gets three Actions: an Action is either drawing or playing a card. They can perform any combination of the two during their turn (as long as it totals three). It's that simple! Or is it...?!
The Human's goal is to make it out of Pittsville in his (not-so) trusty and currently broken-down jeep. To get the jeep working he'll need to collect 4 tires, a battery, a gas can, and a steering wheel and install them so that he can escape before the hordes block off all exits from town.
The whole time, the Human must also scrounge for ammo to blast away at the ravenous undead, using a 9mm pistol, shotgun, assault rifle, Molotov cocktails and whatever else he can put his hands on. Rumor has it there might even be a grenade lying around - all you have to do is find it...
The Zombie’s goal is even simpler: block off all three Escape Routes out of town before the jeep is fixed. To do this, he'll use every last undead at his disposal, which is a lot: Regular Zombies, Fast Zombies, Big Zombies and the ridiculously terrifying Biggest Freakin' Zombie You've Ever Seen (aka the "BFZ"), each with it's own unique abilities and powers. For each Escape Route the Zombie can fully block off, the Human loses one of his Actions, bogging down his scroungin', fightin' and especially his fixin'. With all the advancing, shooting, piling on and desperate, nail-biting searching, things can get pretty hectic in ol' Pittsville.
Of course, things can't be TOO simple. After all, it's the Zompocalypse, remember?! In the middle of all the rushing and blasting away, both sides will encounter a variety of special effects cards, which will alter the course of play. Some of these are good, some are bad, and some will really make your opponent pucker. Either way, for the clever and resourceful they can add multiple layers of strategy. Or, you can just blast/chew away. The choice is yours.
The Basic Set is offered at all pledge levels and includes the following:
For the more "dead-icated" players, the Deluxe Box Edition offers a trunkload of extras that even the most desperate survivor scrounger would have trouble digging up. The Deluxe Box Edition is available at all pledge levels $25 and up and includes all items below:
Yeah, it's fun to blast zombies. It's also fun to play zombies. But how would you like to BE a zombie?! To personalize your gaming experience we’re offering several pledge levels where you can create custom zombie cards to show off to your friends. And to devour them. This is an exciting one time deal where you can get your own picture, zombie title and chatter on the cards done on professional printed card stock. Heck, with Halloween coming up, now you don't even have to decide what to be! Just dress up as a gooey walking dead, snap a photo and you're in! The entire card can be customized to your liking and used with the standard decks. The higher the pledge the more custom cards you get. Watch it there... you're drooling a little.
Alright, now for the good stuff. To make this even MORE fun we’ve come up with some great "everyone-gets-'em" perks for our stretch goals. Check out the sweet (or rotten, depending on how you look at it) SWAG we've put on the table. And watch the hand as it pushes its way up from the grave - the higher it goes, the more you get! Remember: only YOU can make this happen!
Also included in the Basic Zombie Deck is the Big Zombie - and while he's a doozie, there's just one picture... and 8 Big Zombie cards! When the pledges touch here, we'll start the same bonus we're doing with the Regular Zombies - we'll throw in a new, unique Big Zombie picture for every $1,000 extra! We won't stop 'til we've got 'em all (as long as you don't either!). Watch the tracker below for progress.
Who wants to pay for shipping? No one!! Get us this far and we'll turn our zombies loose on the postman. Once he's history, everyone gets free shipping (well, not quite everyone - international orders still need to pony up a little extra).
With a name like Pittsville, this town is too good for just a game... what it needs is its very own Web Comic! Promising to be a fully interactive experience, the Relentless Web comic will chronicle the zombie uprising in Pittsville and beyond, giving readers a chance to vote and steer the direction of the story: who lives, who dies, whose brain gets passed around the zombie buffet, etc. If you pledge high enough, you could even be the star (see pledge levels for details)! Slated to be penned by author and screenwriter Chris Weedin, the Web comic is guaranteed to serve up all the tongue-in-cheek, horror-comedy zombie goodness you crave (ten issue minimum).
They're few, they're deadly... and they're worth a couple extra pictures! There's only one pic of this speedy fellow in the Basic Set, but we want more (and we know you do too!). Help us hit this Stretch Goal and we'll turn all four Fast Zombies into unique and uniquely disturbing pics. Watch the the tracker below as these speedsters multiply.
We're already looking ahead to the future of the Zompocalypse with a 2014 expansion - "Bring Out Your Dead". When pledges hit this level, we'll bust out some of those cards NOW! We'll create and include a pair of special Character Cards: the pistol-packing damage dealer Ex-Marine for the Human and the horrifyingly sinister Gruesome for the Zombies. These cards open up a whole new style of play, with special powers and abilities, custom equipment, etc. Sweet, right? Well here's something even sweeter: YOU could BE on one of these cards! See the pledge levels for how to immortalize yourself... forever!
Want two more Character Cards? Sure you do! Just push the pledges to this peak and you'll get another pair: the handy, able-bodied Mechanic and the hard-pressing, fearsome Slavedriver. You won't wanna miss 'em. And just like with the last set, you might even BE one of 'em... with the right pledge.
If you've pushed us this far, you deserve it. No more foolin' around - we're busting out some of the killer cards we have planned for the first Relentless expansion, "Bring Out Your Dead" (planned for 2014)! You'll get the Graveyard and Dynamite plus two others... one of them a brand new type of zombie, with new powers and abilities! They'll all be fully compatible with the Basic Set and guaranteed to take the Zompocalypse to the next level. Of bad. Viva la undead!
The Zompocalypse is full of surprises. Push us this hard and see how far we'll go. Just like with every good zombie flick, there's always something bigger and deader lurking just around the corner...
But wait! There's more! Our love for zombies is boundless (and tasteless) and we've been cooking up some special video projects to celebrate this event. Featuring Dr. Rob of the Zombie Response Team, Zombie Sarge and hordes of hapless undead, these videos will help educate Human and Zombie alike for the upcoming battle. Check back weekly right here for the latest tongue-in cheek zom-tastic videos, including...
And here's a couple of stills from the set just to let you know what you're getting yourself into...
Born in 1970, Chris Weedin was raised in the Pacific Northwest and spent most of his childhood reading or enjoying the great outdoors, both activities he continues to enjoy. He holds a B.A. in History from the University of Washington, where he graduated with honors, a second degree in Information Technology and a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. He has worked as a furniture deliveryman, professional tutor, programmer, youth minister, computer system administrator and teacher at a community college. His hobbies are broad and varied, including marathon running, camping and hiking, roleplaying, board games, reading, Bible study, Medieval recreation and fencing, writing, speaking and occasional improvisation and acting. Weedin is the creator and developer of the horror-comedy roleplaying game Horror Rules and has written or co-written more than eight books. In 2011 he received a Gaming Genius Award of which he never brags, especially to his gaming group. He lives in Selah, WA with his lovely wife and two lovely and obedient children.
Chris Caprile has been drawing for years - but he won't say how many. His work on Crucifiction Games' early products set the tone for the comic-horror artwork that has become their trademark. He has also illustrated the covers of both Graveyard Shift novels along with numerous other projects. In fact, his work is so valued that if he falls victim to the Zompocalypse, he will most likely end up chained in the company's basement with his pens, art tablet and enough brains to keep him going until they find the cure. He loves comic books, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and spending time with his wife and two wonderful children.
Making a streamlined process for collecting and processing the custom cards will require some work. We will need to clearly communicate with supporters the quality of the photos and dimensions they'll be submitting. We will also need to create a process for converting the pictures into custom cards. Thankfully, we have already started! We have a print-on-demand manufacturer for the cards, card templates and sample layouts and have already produced several custom card mock-ups as a trial run. Also, we've limited the number of custom cards so that things don't get away from us. Though challenging, it will also be one of the coolest parts of the project - seeing the zombified photos streaming in and coming to life (er, "death") on the cards. Sweet! Or rotten, depending on your viewpoint.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
