The Rise of the Lowly
Gazillions of years in the future the vaunted Hoomanrace is extinct and Oith's dominant lifeforms evolved from cockroaches, snack cakes, and the dregs that survived the various apocalypses in this highly original tabletop roleplaying game.
Spork and Sorcery adventure in a shattered world inhabited by the descendants of cockroaches, worms, snack cakes, and stranded aliens. Discover the arcane secrets of hocus pokery, dementalism, smellcasting, and contanimation. Battle hideous beasts risen from the rubble of ancient civilizations. Enjoy a light lunch at the Primordial Soup Kitchen.
Mutha Oith is a world of grand adventure and deadly peril; a world of conflict and danger. It is a land of epic heroism and great evil, a realm of horror and violence, a bold land where even the lowliest croach can become a king by his own mop and the most wretched gob of filth can become a gawd.
Are you werm enough to follow your destiny? Do you have the nuggets to take your rightful place among Oith’s most valiant heroes? If so, strap on your esophagator hide shield, pick up your battle spork and your big ass cleaver, mount your pygmy slog, whisper a prayer to Jelvis, kiss your larvae goodbye, and open the goosin’ book. The muck-riddled road to epic adventure stands before you…
Why a new Low Life?
This brand new version of the classic Low Life game features all new full-color art, new writing, new magic, tons of new Edges, Powers, Hindrances, and skills, new locales, new adventures, new monsters, a new layout, and new everything else. It will closely match the hardcover edition of The Whole Hole - A Gadabout's Guide to Mutha Oith - Volume 01: Keister Island and all the other products in the Low Life family. As an added bonus, I will personally sign and customize every book that's backed through this campaign.
Low Life is supported by several related products, including a line of high-quality pewter miniatures, a series of card games and game enhancers, and a horde of other nifty things that will come to fruition if our Stretch Goals are met. You can learn a lot more, and nab yourself some free downloads, at www.muthaoithcreations.com.
Low Life: The Rise of the Lowly uses the fantastic Savage Worlds rules system by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. The Savage Worlds Deluxe rules (less than ten bucks from PEG Inc.) are required to play the game, but not to enjoy the book, which is presented in such a way that all the game related jazz is in the appendices at the back so as not to interfere with the reader's enjoyment of the story. If we reach the requisite funding level I will also produce Pathfinder and Fate Core editions.
I'm intrigued. Tell me more...
Here are the nine playable species that are introduced in the core rulebook:
200 Backers: We'll add a Low Life name generator to the website (www.muthaoithcreations.com). UNLOCKED!
300 Likes on the facebook Page: Random Adventure Hook Generator.
300 Backers: Random tizn't trait generator.
400 Backers: I will produce a Pathfinder conversion of Low Life: The Rise of the Lowly, which will be offered as a download even if we don't reach the $100,000 Stretch Goal.
500 Shares: If this page gets 1000 facebook shares I will add another Limited Edition Miniature to Heap #7. UNLOCKED!
600 Backers: We'll put out a Fate Core conversion in PDF even if the $120,000 Stretch Goal is not attained.
These Stretch Goals become unlocked as their funding level is attained. Click here for a more concise list of goals and rewards.
If you pledge an amount that offers you rewards whose funding level is not attained you will be given the option to make up the difference with duplicate products or original artwork. As a bonus, the poster map will be given to everyone who pledges $55 or more (as long as the funding level for that reward is reached).
Items of equal value are interchangeable. For example, if you already have the Dementalism card game and would prefer another set of Bennies instead, it's all good (as long as both projects are funded). Just send me a message to let me know what you want. To add anything to your pledge, increase your funding accordingly and send me a message to let me know. Of course, it's a much better value to pledge at the levels that give you entire Heaps, but it's your call.
5 Art Cards: These 4"x6" high-quality, full-color art prints are suitable for framing and feature five characters from Low Life. Part of Heap #1 or can be added to any pledge for an additional $15. UNLOCKED!
The Boss Blocker: This is the Low Life game master screen. The one in the picture is the prototype version. It's included in Heap #1 or it can be added to any pledge for an additional $15. UNLOCKED!
Figure Flats: These cardstock figures represent over 200 characters and creatures from the book. The ones in the picture are from the The Whole Hole: Keister Island set, but the new ones will follow the same template. These are part of Heap #1 or can be added to any pledge for an additional $15. UNLOCKED!
+5 Adventures: Low Life: The Rise of the Lowly includes five One Sheet adventures (and a large number of adventure hooks and ideas). If this funding level is reached I will add five more One Sheet Adventures to the book and make them available as a PDF download to all backers who pledge at least $25. UNLOCKED!
Low Life T Shirt: This shirt, which should look similar to the mock-up pictured above, features the Low Life Crying Oith. Various aspects (color, image size, etc...) are subject to change. It's included in Heap #1 or can be added to any other pledge for $20. UNLOCKED!
5 More Art Cards: This set of five 4"x6" art cards are part of Heap #2 or can be added to any other pledge for $15. UNLOCKED!
Low Life Dice: A full set of custom Low Life dice can be yours if you nab Heap #2 or add $20 to any other pledge. They even come with a snazzy custom dice bag. The dice may or may not look like the ones in the picture. UNLOCKED!
Miniatures Rules: If we hit this funding level I will include rules for using Low Life Miniatures in your Low Life game. They will comprise an appendix of the book and be available as a seperate PDF download to everyone backing at $25 or more. UNLOCKED!
Limited Edition Miniature: This limited edition Low Life Miniature is included in Heap #2 or can be added to any pledge for $30. The Remnant of Hoomanity is about 45mm tall and will be cast in high quality pewter or resin. No more than 100 will be made. Sculpted by the legendary Sandra Garrity. UNLOCKED!
Floomish T Shirt: This shirt features a portrait of Keistermeister Hugormo XIII of Floom and bears the words Oithling by birth - Floomish by the grace of Boorglezar. That picture is a rough draft. The actual shirt will be much cooler. It is part of Heap #2 or can be added to any pledge for an extra $20. UNLOCKED!
The Yortstick: You've got your miniatures and your minis rules, but how are you going to measure things out? This is how. It's a laminated ruler decorated like the infamous Yortstick carried by Yort himself. It's Free as part of Heap #2 or can be nabbed for an extra $10. UNLOCKED!
5 More Art Cards: These five art cards are just like the last ones we talked about except with different pictures on them. They are part of Heap #3 or can be added to any pledge for $15. UNLOCKED!
Low Life Playing Cards: A set of 54 standard playing cards decorated with Low Life artwork. Use them to draw initiative in your Low Life game or to play any playing card based game. They're included in Heap #3 or can be nabbed by adding $15 to any pledge. UNLOCKED!

+5 Adventures: I'll add five more One Sheet adventures to the book and offer them as PDF downloads. That brings the total up to 15. UNLOCKED!

Low Life Bennies: These colorful tokens feature the Crying Oith and can be used as Bennies for Low Life or any other Savage Worlds game. There are a gazillion of other uses for them as well, from poker chips to coasters for really tiny drinks. They're free with Heap #4 or $20 if added to something else.
MisAdventure Deck: A card from this illustrated deck is dealt to each player. It describes a special events or situation that can be played to influence the outcome of events during your Low Life game. It's part of Heap #4 or an extra $15.
+5 Adventures: Five more adventures to add to the core book and the PDF. That's 20, in case you're counting!
Another Shirt: I'm not sure if this one will feature a gruzz and be pink or not. Again, my ears are open (so to speak). $20 or included with Heap #4.
Plush Slog: You can nab this 12" handmade plush slog for $30 regardless of whether or not we reach the $30,000 goal. Of course, it's included for FREE if you nab Heap #4, so there's that to consider. UNLOCKED!
5 More Art Cards: These cards feature a few favorites from the original Low Life book. They're $15 or included with Heap #5.
Dementalism: An ingenious game of ingenious ingeniousness. Dementalism is the first card game based on the Low Life setting. It's a fast-paced and exciting game of memory, strategy, and buddy-screwing. You can get it for $20 or by nabbing Heap #5. UNLOCKED!
Dementalism Expansion 1 (The Garden of Smellemental Glee): This expansion to the Dementalism game contains 72 cards and introduces Beast cards to the mix. It's included in Heap #5 or can be yours for an extra $15.
+5 Adventures: I'll write and illustrate five more One Sheet Adventures for the book and the PDF. Wow, that brings us up to 25.

Trozzgoxx Miniature: Trozzgoxx the Lobe is the oofo dementalist on the cover of the Dementalism card game. He can be yours as part of Heap #5 or by adding $10 to any pledge. Alternately, you can choose to nab yourself a LIMITED EDITION Squiggins Neverlost miniature! Squiggins can be nabbed for $20 (limited to 100) or as a FREE part of Heap #5.
Dementalism Shirt: This snazzy shirt features our pal Trozzgoxx and the Dementalism logo. It's on a natural, unbleached shirt with purple ink. Very cool... $20 or included in Heap #5.
Dementalism Play Mat: A stylish double-sided vinyl mat that makes it simpler to lay out your Dementalism Spread and easier to pick up the cards. It's FREE with Heap #5 or can be added to any pledge for $30. The Play Mat will be made regardless of whether or not we reach the $40,000 goal. UNLOCKED!
5 More Art Cards: Wow, that's a lot of art cards. We'll decide what goes on these a bit later on, once you guys have a chance to tell me what some of your favorite pictures are. Included in Heap #6 or $15 standing all alone.
Playing Dirty: This Live-Action Low Life Roleplaying Experience (LARP) is a collaboration between me (Andy) and the incomparable Will Thrasher. It will be included in the core rulebook and as a stand alone PDF. UNLOCKED!
Holy Crap: The Whole Hole - A Gadabout's Guide to Mutha Oith - Volume 02: Holy Crap explores the religions of the Low Life setting. Over thirty faiths are discussed in detail, from the point of view of gadabout Credulous Shmeckle during his Great Sects Change Operation. It features new religions, new characters, new monsters, new magic, new stuff, new locales, and a whole bunch of other new jazz. Hardbound, profusely illustrated, and over 200 pages. If we don't fund it here it will eventually get its own kickstarter campaign, but why not murder three slogs with one slog-murdering stick? The book is included in Heap #6 or can be nabbed by itself for $30.
+5 Adventures: Seriously? Five more One Sheets? Yes. Yes, indeed. That's 30 I owe you at this point.
Happy Plate Club Shirt: This shirt shows off Angry Ubgunsker and will contain the logo and some sort of slogan for the Happy Plate Club in Floom. $20 by itself or included in Heap #6.
Limited Edition Miniature: This collectible miniature features Yort and his famous yortstick. No more than 100 will be made. It's yours as part of Heap #6 or add $20 to any other pledge.
Plot Point Campaign Set: This boxed adventure set is like a Low Life super adventure. It will contain so much jazz I can't even describe it here. It's a big project and if we don't fund it here it'll be the subject of another kickstarter at a later date. It's $50 by itself or included in Heap #7.
Slogpile: This extra fun game is no simple slog stacker like the Slogpile your grandparents didn't play when they were kids. Although it's about stacking plastic slogs atop one another there are some sweet twists that make it something completely original. As an added bonus you can use the slogs as miniatures in your Low Life RPG or miniatures game. Yet another large undertaking that will likely be the subject of a later kickstarter campaign if it doesn't get funded here. It's included in Heap #7 or can be nabbed alone for $30.
+5 Adventures: I'll add five more One Sheet adventures to the core rulebook. They will also be available as PDF downloads. That's 35. THIRTY FIVE!
Another Shirt: I'm not sure yet what will be on this shirt. I'm open to suggestion, though, if anybody has any ideas.
STUFF THAT'S NOT IN A HEAP
Pathfinder Conversion: At this level I will produce a version of the Low Life: The Rise of the Lowly core rulebook that uses the extremely popular Pathfinder rules instead of the also extremely popular Savage Worlds rules. The PDF version will be free to all backers at $25 or above and the hardbound edition can be nabbed by adding $40 to any pledge.
Poster Map: If we hit the $100,000 stretch goal EVERYBODY who pledges at least $55 will get a FREE 12"x18" full color poster map of Mutha Oith. Extra maps are $10 each.
Fate Core Conversion: At this level I will produce a Fate Core conversion for Low Life. This book will be offered for $40 to any backer or can be nabbed in place of the Savage Worlds or Pathfinder version at any level that gets you a physical book.
In addition to the stuff offered in the Stretch Goals listed above, here are a bunch of pledge-enhancing items you can nab in order to increase your bounty. To nab these, simply increase your pledge appropriately and send me a message letting me know what you want (you can do much the same thing with any item in the Stretch Goals). Domestic shipping in the US is included. International orders please add $20 (per order, not per item).
With all illustrations your character or creature will appear in either The Rise of the Lowly or Holy Crap, depending on how quickly you get me the description and which book seems most appropriate. You get to keep the original drawing. Peeps and beasts must be appropriate to the Low Life setting (I'll work with you).
Character Sketch: I'll draw a character based on your description in a detailed, yet sketchy manner, in one color. $100
Character Drawing: You get a full-color, highly detailed rendering of your peep, by itself, with no background. $200
Improved Character Drawing: Your character drawing may include up to three additional figures and a detailed background. $300
Heap Drawing: This is a larger drawing that includes your entire heap (adventuring party) and a detailed background, as well as any other elements you want to throw into the mix. $500
These original drawings done with Prismacolor colored pencils on high-quality smooth Bristol paper. I'll add more as the listed ones sell out or linger, but for now, here are representatives of six of Low Life's wagglers of zazz. If you want one, just increase your pledge appropriately and send me a message to let me know which one. If there are other pictures of mine you are interested in please let me know and I'll see if they are available.

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
It's possible production delays might arise if the whims of incidental happenstance conspire against us. Since I'm depending on myself for all the writing, illustration, and design I have nobody to fall back on if illness, injury, or misadventure should interfere. Still, I'm an experienced and award-winning producer of such things (writing, illustration, and design, not illness, injury, and misadventure) and I don't foresee any issues.
I've learned from past campaigns not to set my projected completion dates unreasonably. I don't want to rush through this and produce an inferior project just to get it out in time. At the time of this writing, I have over 90,000 words written and over 200 illustrations completed. The bulk of what's left to write and illustrate are the adventures, and the number of those I include in the book depends on the funding level we reach. If I should fall victim to the iniquities of decrepitude or get devoured by something hideous, enough of the project has already been completed to allow a capable descendant to pick up where I left off. My amazing wife, Heather, knows many people in the industry who would be eager to scavenge the remains.
Because I'm doing all the creative work myself I don't have to depend on other freelancers to get their part done on time (a problem that has plagued certain past projects).
Britne, my executive henchperson, will be helping with order fulfillment, so once the projects arrive from the printer we'll be able to ship them to you in a timely manner. The projected completion date of March 2014 refers to the core rulebook only. Certain stretch goals may take longer to complete (especially Holy Crap and the Plot Point Campaign set) and I ask for your patience in bringing those to life.
I shall do so. If you want to get in on the special game at Con on the Cob in 2014 please choose the $50 "LOW LIFE GAME AT CON ON THE COB" as your pledge level. If you also want another pledge level add the amount for that level to your pledge then send me a message to let me know what you've chosen. For example, if you want to play in the game and also want the $400 SIXTH HEAP option you would select the LOW LIFE GAME AT CON ON THE COB as your reward, pledge $450, and message me along the lines of "Hey Andy, I just nabbed myself the Sixth Heap and got in on the game at Con on the Cob".
The music is "Heck on Oith", one of two Low Life themed songs created by the legendary Stratos. Visit www.baileyrecords.com for more of his crantastic jazz.
I will ship out the core rulebook when it is back from the printer, along with any Stretch goals that are complete at that time. I'll send a second shipment that includes all of the other Stretch Goals once all of them are complete. If you want your Stretch Goal rewards early or in increments as they are completed you will have the option to pay for the extra shipping.
If you pledge for a heap and the goals are not reached you have the option of either accepting multiple copies of other items to make up the difference (your choice of what items), or original artwork from the book. The original artwork is valued at $300-500 and only half that amount counts toward the reward (for example, if you are owed $200 of rewards I will send you $400 worth of art). It's up to you to decide what you want. Other MOC products, such as The Whole Hole and the Low Life miniatures can also be claimed this way. Nobody will be left empty handed or uncompensated.
