Have you ever just wanted to just know stuff, but didn't want to torture yourself with traditional flashcard-style learning?
Did you know that there is a better science-based way to develop fluency that is almost effortless?
Gamemaster Howard's Know-It-All is a fresh and innovative memory and trivia game for iPhones, iPads & iPod Touches (with Android mobile not far behind! - see the Updates section).
Know-It All is being developed by videogame veteran Howard Phillips along with a select team of industry friends. Howard is best known for his role as Nintendo's original Gamemaster but since then he has helped ship over 167 games including the iPhone Game of the Year Infinity Blade.
Howard and the Know-It-All team have created a prototype that demonstrates the core mechanic and provides a solid foundation for moving forward. The prototype can import 15+ million free content sets from the cloud using an in-app editor for tweaking the imported content and adding personalized audio.
With real-world testing and refinements underway we are now seeking additional funds to complete the development cycle and ship Know-It-All.
Above is a short video of the Know-It-All prototype playing a content set we made that pairs politicians with the wacky things they say: AKA "PoliGaffes".
How fast can you match the text gaffe from the tile in the top with the politician's picture on the board below? Can you make triples, quads, or quints?
What fun and funny things will you put in the content sets you make and share with friends?
"Howard Phillips is one of the most creative, knowledgeable, scholarly and community minded people we know. His Know-It-All game is extremely exciting: at first it looks like mere flashcard technology - but we've come to see that Know-It-All is much more than that. Keep up the brilliant work Howard!"

"Know-It-All actually does work. I've used it. This deserves backing"

One Brain = One Memory System? - Since scientists first began studying the brain it was believed that each of us has just one memory system that is home to all our memories. We are taught to practice with flashcards over and over again because that is considered the best and fastest way to memorize things.
Research went into ways to optimize flashcard-style memorization and resulted in methods such as spaced repetition (spreading out exercise over time) and expanding retrieval (spreading out even more).
Actually... One Brain = Two Memory Systems!! - Researchers recently used brain imaging technology to discover that there is a second memory system in the brain. While the first on requires thinking, effort, and much more energy, the second one is automatic and near-effortless.
The second memory system is secretly at work and we don't even know it!
The Second Memory System Gives Us Fluency - When someone has automatic near-effortless recall of something we say they are "fluent" Fluency is the goal of memory development. Hours of laborious conscious effort using flashcards may eventually give us fluency, but Know-It-All provides a faster better way.
Know-It-All Targets The Second Memory System - Individuals quickly gain fluency while playing the game. Repetitious exercise occurs using just the peripheral of the player's attention. Meanwhile, they focus their conscious effort on more challenging aspects of gameplay. This allows for extended play sessions that are fun and enjoyable, not tedious.
Know-It-All and You - As you play the game automatically adjusts such that you do not exercise your conscious effortful recall. Instead, the exercise of your automatic near effortless recall is optimized.
Finally, you can forget boring memorization and simply have fun remembering, simply by playing a game. You can develop fluency of any facts or vocabulary you choose by using Know-It-All's import and edit feature. Download free content from the cloud and become a Know-It-All of anything!

Risks and Challenges are as follows:
Making a fun game is never a slam dunk but given the experience of those involved we firmly believe we will be successful so long as we keep our focus on the fun.
Apple could change the rules on us and if it does in a catastrophic way we'll shift to Android as our launch platform.
Cloud providers of free downloadable content could decide to stop offering free access to their content sets. If they do we will shift focus to other providers who remain free and we will evaluate building our own hosting services for free content. (We will do this anyway if our goal multiplier is large enough).
A bus could hit one or more of us - if that happens the others will likely pick up the pieces and soldier on towards release with tears in their eyes but a "Win one for the Gipper" attitude...Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
