"Know-It-All App Lets You Learn Without Thinking" - Chris Kohler - Wired
by Howard Phillips
Thx for the input Bret - very much appreciated.
Initially I was reluctant to reveal specifics in advance of patent protection - that is in place now ; ) As mentioned in one or more updates, it is also hard to pitch to such a diverse audience - only later in the project cycle did we break out the pitches based on individual background/interest - likely should have done that from the start.
Leaned a little too heavy on the Gamemaster heritage but felt the need to leverage that to draw attention to Know-It-All in an otherwise hard-to-be-noticed environment. It was useful and effective with the press media and the small subset of the 6-10 million fans from 1990 who became aware of the Kickstarter, but presenting the heritage got in the way of presenting other more important aspects of the project. - lesson learned and will be sensitive to this moving forward...
thx again - h
In future, I would concentrate much less on communicating Howard's background, and much more on what you're actually making, with concrete examples. Even as a backer of the concept, I had a hard time convincing others it was worth backing without having something definite to point to. For those without an existing appreciation for Howard's history in the game industry, most of the materials and updates looked like self-promotion of the individual, not the concept being pitched.
