About this project
‘Contemporary Art’ in Mongolia struggles for its space and free spirit inside a system that still focuses on the traditional arts. Young contemporary artists have difficulties accessing good education, financial support and art networks. Nevertheless they have passion, talent, genuine strong concepts and they are eager to learn and grow, so we believe there is a big future for them on the international market.
WHY are there 3 PEOPLE/PROJECTS in ONE KICKSTARTER?
We have decided to jump into Kickstarter together because we want to share this adventure of life and believe in connecting great artwork to a social international network. So although it may seem confusing, just think about the fact that by funding this Kickstarter project you are not only helping one, but three creative projects to their existence!!! And on top of that a networking trip which may change the future of the Mongolian contemporary artists in ways only imaginable.
And you can be a part of this adventure as we keep you up to date every step of the way through fun pics and personal notes, until ALL projects are finished (and maybe longer) via our blog.
WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO?
The funding will be divided as follows:
1: TWO LARGE 'HORN PEOPLE' SCULPTURES by Dorjderem Davaa
Funds will buy materials to turn the first two ‘horn people’ sculptures into human size (2011)
2: LULLABY to MOTHER EARTH by Enkhjargal Ganbat
Nomad Wave Art Group has been working on the ‘Lullaby to Mother Earth’ performance throughout Mongolia. Next summer Eya brings the results into the galleries and streets of Ulaanbaatar. The funds help pay for gallery taxes, prints, promotional materials, ... (summer 2011)
3: MULTIMEDIA DOCUMENTARY by Vanessa De Smet
The multimedia documentary on the lives of the contemporary artists in Ulaanbaatar will have a first showing organized by the Belgian production company ‘Arendsoog’ in April 2011. (Thank you!) Funding will cover operational costs this winter such as travel expenses, visas, translator/fixer, etc. … oh yes, and not to forget car and driver rental so Van can survive the ‘environmental shots’ in -35C! (winter 2010/2011)
4: EUROPE EDUCATIONAL & NETWORK TRIP (for Eya and Dermee)
Eya and Dermee go to Europe in Spring 2011 for project, education and networking purposes. They will represent the Mongolian Contemporary Arts at the multimedia premiere and meet with artists, galleries, curators and art buyers. At the same time Nomad Wave will hold performances at public spaces throughout Europe with ‘Lullaby for Mother Earth’, involving local citizens and spreading their concept. Kickstarter funding will cover the return flight and visa to Europe. (spring 2011)
ALL or NOTHING!
Every project must be fully funded before its time expires or no money changes hands. So it’s a get ALL or NOTHING deal. We are secretly hoping you can help us reach that ‘full green bar’.
EXCEED THE GOAL?
We have set the goal at 9000$ which covers the basic costs. It is possible to exceed this at which point there will be 3 people rolling into the Mongolian snow out of absolute excitement!!! All extra funding will go to the same or related art projects, and we will surely keep you updated on the details.
GET GREAT GIFTS from MONGOLIA!
We offer a range of amazing rewards if you back our project … from a personally written ‘own art’ postcard all the way from Mongolia to signed sketches, canvas and photo prints … to an AMAZING painting from one of the artists made especially for you (new!)… and not to forget the ABSOLUTE TOP to receive a handmade ‘Birds of the Hidden Universe’ baby sculpture from Dermee or a meet & greet with the artists as Dermee or Eya make you a painting at your home!
Sketch - reward for $50 donation
Canvas Print - '10 year old queen' (2009) - reward for $250 and $500 donation
Hard Material Sculpture - 'Bird of Hidden Universe' (2006) - reward for $1500 donation
Of course in the long run we hope you get to see the full documentary on screen, participate in a ‘Lullaby to Mother Earth’ performance in your hometown or secretly touch the huge horns of the ‘Horn People’ sculptures at a gallery. But … the road is the enjoyment and we are walking it with all the smiles of the world!
Thank you so much for your time and support!
Eya, Dermee and Van
