Thank you all so much!!! We can't begin to express how grateful we are to everyone that has supported us and our campaign. We can't wait to make Dream Writers a reality!
We have 100 minutes to go, and we know if seems like we don't need your help, but additional funds go an immeasurable distance in helping us accomplish our goals: better equipment and locations, better rates for crew and talent, and more opportunities with festivals and networking.
We'll be sending out a more official thank you shortly! Thank you again so much!!!
11th HOUR REWARD:
We're down to the final hours, and we have EVEN MORE NEW STUFF for the end of our campaign! We have EVEN MORE new incentives, EVEN MORE upgrade options, and for ANYONE who backs or upgrades today, we're adding a BONUS SPECIAL LIMITED EDITION NEVER-TO-BE-REPRINTED BONUS BONUS...signed postcard. Ok, so it's not the biggest thing, but we wanted to have a special way of thanking everyone that gets behind us in these final hours. We're so close to reaching our goal, and we'd love for you to be an even bigger part of our journey!
Hopefully at this point you’ve already fallen completely and madly in love with us, because we’re completely and madly in love with you, and well that would just be embarrassing otherwise. But, you might be a tiny bit curious as to what Dream Writers is all about...
Dream Writers is derived from a single, simple idea: What if other people wrote your dreams? It’s a concept yet to be explored in the television industry, and our goal is for this project to be the first. It's kind of like the movie "Inception" in that it's about dreams... And that's where the similarities end. Also, we don't have Ellen Page.
After an office shakeup at Project Lucid, the top secret government agency responsible for writing dreams, two best friends are paired up with an offbeat new employee. Together, the three battle changing relationships and workplace politics as they struggle to maximize their dreamer’s potential.
The sitcom focuses on Sam - a career-driven, recently promoted head writer, his best friend, Quinn - a fun-chasing, success-fearing underachiever, and Russell - a quirky, awkward, newly employed writer desperate for friends. The team endures a series of struggles in their pursuit of success, and even though the group begins to develop a loyal, tight-knit bond, we’ll learn that even dream teams have a B-squad.
Episode one of “Dream Writers” focuses on change. Sam is unexpectedly promoted to Head Writer, leaving Quinn as his subordinate, and the two must incorporate a brand new employee, Russell, as their third group member. In an effort to disband Sam and Quinn, their boss only gives the pair one day to train Russell, who struggles to process the gravity of writing dreams.
With a poor track record, a failing dreamer, and abrupt changes to group dynamics, the new team has their work cut out for them. Sam, Quinn, and Russell must quickly learn to work together and record a successful dreamer, or their first job as a team will also be their last.
On the surface, it might look like we’re just a group of four guys trying to make a television show… because we are just a group of four guys trying to make a television show. But, we’re a group of four guys that are fully invested in our passion, wholeheartedly believe in our project, and maintain an endless pursuit of excellence. Plus our moms don’t let us use the word, “can’t”.
With changes in technology and a major shift in how content is distributed, the entertainment industry has never been more accessible to creators. Over the past 18 months we’ve done everything we can do to develop an interesting concept, assemble the strongest team, and best position ourselves to tell the “Dream Writers” story.
We’ve been very fortunate to have the support of dedicated team members (focused on everything from development, to casting, to marketing), experienced industry advisers (from writers, to producers, to agents), and of course amazing friends, family, and fans that’ve been an invaluable help throughout the process.
The recent influx of projects, combined with investment in long term structures, is setting Atlanta up to become a top production destination for years to come. The next stage is to start creating and growing more projects from within. It’s very important to us that “Dream Writers” is a project made in Atlanta by Atlanta, and that we create opportunities and jobs for our community.
We believe that we have a chance to do something special. We’re very proud to be part of the Atlanta entertainment industry, and we can’t wait to see what happens next.
“Why in the world do they need $100,000?!”
Believe it or not, Television budgets can run into the tens of millions of dollars per episode (absurd, we know). So, although our target goal might seem like a lot of money, because it is, it actually sits at the very bottom of the television totem pole.
“Ok, but where’s the money going?”
There are two goals:
- Film the Pilot
- Position for Network Interest
The largest allocation of funds goes directly into filming the pilot: pre-production, equipment, crew, cast, locations, etc. However, filming the pilot is only one step on the path to creating a successful television show. Positioning for network interest includes the costs associated with: festivals and competitions, pitching the pilot, marketing, legal fees, etc.
“How much are they paying themselves?”
Come on, now! As captains, you have to be prepared to go down with the ship... No core team members will receive a salary, stipend, or compensation for services rendered unless the show receives a development deal. We’re in it for the long haul.
Who doesn't want cool stuff?! We've created all different types of packages, so check ‘em out and see what interests you. If you don’t see something you like, let us know and we might create it! Check out some apparel below, with the full incentives list to the right.
Spread the Word!
The only way we’ll hit our goal is by reaching out beyond our own networks. If you’d like to see our show on TV some day, and know that you played a part in its success, please share our page with your own network of friends, family, and anyone you think would be interested… especially if they’re willing to donate.
Back the Project!
By pledging any amount, you’re giving us the chance to tell our story, and we will be forever grateful. Plus, you’re eligible to receive exclusive rewards only available to Kickstarter backers. Just pick out an amount that fits your budget, or a particular reward that interests you, click the incentive, and follow the instructions!
We believe Dream Writers is a story worth telling, and we look forward to the opportunity to show you why. Above anything else, we hope you enjoy what we’ve created. Thank you again for supporting our project.
Risks and challenges
This is the section where we wash away any concerns you might have, because “Dream Writers” is a guaranteed success, and there’s no risk whatsoever with making a television show! Ummmmm, not exactly… because that’s craziness. Our mission is to create a TV show. There are endless obstacles to making that a reality, just like with any venture, but we always try to position ourselves to act in the best interest of the project by:
At the end of the day, we don’t have all the answers, but we’re continually expanding our network of resources to fill in the gaps. We believe that with passion, drive, and objectivity… and your help, we can accomplish anything!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
