Biz4Kids: An Innovative, Fun Comic to Teach Business to KidsBusiness and entrepreneurship should NOT be reserved for adults only. We believe that business and entrepreneurship appreciation and education should happen as early as possible. Showing kids how business works at an early age allows them to take advantage of the countless opportunities that exist in today’s world.
That’s why we created Biz4Kids, a fun and entertaining comic with great stories that also conveys the fundamentals of business.
This project is a comic for kids by kids. When Alex Osterwalder, the inventor of the Business Model Canvas, explained his work to his children Latif and Malina, the comic project was born. Together with the illustrators they are the main drivers of the project.
The comic focuses on a great and entertaining story above all, in order to attract and engage kids and unlock their entrepreneurial potential. There are fantastic protagonists, superheroes and villains, several adventures, and unexpected events. Our team of illustrators created three characters: Ana, Sheldon, and Sheila. They travel the world and help businesses overcome challenges.
Hear Latif pitch our project to you in the video above.
During their adventures our protagonists face challenges, like rescuing surf shops in Australia, saving a wax museum in London, and helping a tourist guide in Tajikistan scale his company. Throughout the stories we convey business fundamentals and put forward tools that help kids better understand how business and entrepreneurship work.
You can be part of this project not just by buying the comic, but by co-creating with us. Participate with your kids, and help us shape the product. You will get access to a closed community where we regularly share storyboards, sketches, plots, and more. Help us craft the stories.
Who is this comic for?
The comic is first and foremost designed to entertain, and engage kids from 7 and beyond. However, teachers, parents and even grandparents will also enjoy reading this book to their kids to foster an innovative learning environment for their children.
Biz4Kids also emphasizes the importance of conducting business responsibly. Some of the stories highlight business practices that that may be harmful to society and how those can be overcome.
We've put together what we could to serve you in the best way and help you to support us. Have a look at the rewards we'll create for you below.
Beginnings and Future Timeline
Update: We've decided to add a new stretch goal to our campaign, which we set at CHF 80,000. If we reach this stretch goal, we will add augmented reality scenes to our project! That is, the reader will be able to view a video by holding a smartphone camera over a particular panel.
Biz4Kids started off as a family project initiated by Alex Osterwalder. He was convinced that kids are not taught business in a stimulating way, if at all. He launched Biz4Kids not only to overcome the lack of engaging business education for kids, but also to involve his own children more in his work and educate them on entrepreneurship. Soon, a team of illustrators led by Holger Nils Pohl of the Work Visual Institute got on board and the project became reality.
Looking forward: We finished approximately 60% of the content work of the Australia story. After the campaign, we will focus on creating the overarching story and the "screenplay". That will lead us to the drawing process of the comic itself.
Your funding will allow us to allocate resources to this project to create focus and momentum.
Early May: Finished Kickstarter Campaign
Mid May: Having the collaboration platform up and running
June-August: Focusing on creating the comic (story+drawings) September: Finalizing and printing
This is the first attempt to connect a high quality comic book with business education that is fun and entertaining. We don't know yet if we can manage this timeline perfectly, but we will fully dedicate ourselves to making it possible!
Meet the Team
Risks and challenges
Once Biz4Kids is fully funded, we believe risks are relatively low. Alex Osterwalder has already written several global bestsellers, and Holger Nils Pohl has been involved in a number of Kickstarter campaigns. Our team has substantial experience with these types of projects.
Furthermore, we will be held accountable throughout the co-creation process. Backers will provide feedback, and we will be pushed to regularly post content online, which will drive the project forward.
We have a very transparent culture and will communicate any potential challenges and keep you up to date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
