Lucky Dip Cards is a fun monthly surprise experience game for an exceptional year.
Add more excitement, fun, creativity and connection to your life simply by picking an envelope!
What experiences can I expect?
The experiences are a selection of Life's Best Bits (think food/drink, culture, charity, luxury). The opposite of throw away experiences, these experiences all have a mixture of elements which make them memorable, such as a change of scenery, requires thinking/creativity, involves other people, makes you proud.
Each has been specifically selected for the impact it'll have, and includes guidance in the description to ensure you get the most out of it. No matter which card you pick, all experiences can be done within 30 days, and can be adjusted for any budget (though there are definitely a few you should splurge on!).
Here are the experiences revealed so far:
- Salute the morning! Find a truly beautiful spot and watch the sunrise, sipping the finest bubbles you can get your hands on.
- Immerse yourself in nature with a splendid weekend in the countryside. Ramble up a hill then retire in more comfortable conditions.
- Expand your dancing repertoire and get your body moving. Join a group class for a night of dancing exploits in time to delightful music.
- A delicious gorging journey. Restaurant hop on a cuisine crawl or tackle a degustation menu with all the bells and whistles.
What will the cards have in store next?!
Play from any new beginning
Play by yourself, with a partner or with a group of friends from New Year, Christmas, Birthday, Wedding...or Divorce.
Experiencing exciting, memorable moments has never been so easy! You don't have to constantly think of new things to do, you simply need to play the game.
PICK: At the start of each month, pick an envelope at random and open to reveal your experience. If playing in a group, alternate who gets to pick. Have fun with how and where you pick your card each month.
DO: Plan, plot and scheme to bring your experience to life, within 30 days. Get as creative and elaborate as you can! Relish your experience when it finally happens.
SHARE: Inspire others with stories of your experiences - your card draws, planning journeys and your interpretation of experiences. Share with friends, and #luckydipcards
Great Idea: Play at a New Year's Eve party, and rather spectacularly, everybody pick a card at once and have something fantastic to look forward to in January!

Surprise! This month, you're going to…
With each card concealed, you won't know what you'll be experiencing until you pick and open an envelope! This is a huge part of what makes playing so fun, every month you’ll feel excited anticipation as you discover what's in store next. You’ll find it’s a bit infectious for your friends too. Once they know you’re playing, expect to be asked regularly “Have you picked your card yet?!”, “what card did you get this month?!”.
There's no need to worry about what's coming up, there are only good things inside. There's no marathon running, sky diving, or getting you to quit anything!
Locally made and kind to the environment
I love locally made products, and the people who make them. In this spirit, I have teamed up with a few laddies from Scotland. Chris hails from Allander Printers in Edinburgh. And Ryan is translating everything that Lucky Dip Cards are into beautiful designs from his studio Rydo in Glasglow.
There is no plastic in this game! Lucky Dip Cards are 100% recyclable, through your usual household recycling. During the development of this game, I went through several stages of material testing, before I settled on the final all paper version.
Rewards for an exceptional year
Each game includes: 12x Experience cards (100mm x 75mm, 300gsm, uncoated), wrapped in 12x little envelopes (gummed and sealed), popped into 1x box (uncoated), with 1x instruction leaflet and 2x loose 'what do you dearly want to do?' blank cards (100mm x 75mm, 300gsm, uncoated).
Pop. Fizz. A Happy New Year story!
I created this game one New Year's Eve as a fun way to fill the following year with special things. Instead of one big resolution (which no one ever sticks to!), a bright idea sparked, I was going to break things down into 12 bite sized bits.
I wrote down 12 special things I wanted to do, which were achievable in 30 days and popped them into a jar. At the start of each month, I would pick one, do whatever it said before the end of that month, then pick again. I had such an incredible time! Month after month, the excitement of picking a secret card never wore off, the fun of planning and doing my experience never got boring, and I found the more I played, the more interested my friends became.
When New Year’s Eve rolled around again, my memories of the year were so different from the one before. Instead of wondering what I'd done with my time, I knew exactly what I'd done, because it was so memorable! I had created a 'one day only' pop up brunch club, spent an evening eating my way through Soho on a tapas crawl, told someone special exactly how much they meant to me and why, started the Christmas season off with some live big brass tunes at Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club..and so much more!
The 12 special experiences throughout the year had overall made me more social, try new things, add some charity into my life and pamper myself a bit. What started off as a novelty game for my husband and I to play, was so good, that we played again the following year. Friends loved what we were doing and jumped at the chance to join in when a card came out calling for their input. Some replicated the game, wanting more of the experiences than just the ones we had shared with them. And other friends begged me to make it for them.
Which is why I'm here on Kickstarter, asking for your support!
Kickstarter backers can help me!
Connect with fellow lovers of life. People who are searching for new and exciting things to add to their life are already gathered here on the same platform. By introducing Lucky Dip Cards here, my chance of being noticed by people who will enjoy my game the most is greatly increased.
Reach printing/production efficiencies. Costs for bespoke cards and packaging are very expensive when done in low quantities. In order for my game to be good value I need to have a high quantity for the initial print run so economies of scale can be realised and passed on to you.
Avoid compromising on quality and values. Concealing cards in little envelopes and making a beautifully designed box that will look lovely in your home all year round are essential design elements. Making the game as environmentally friendly as possible (no cheap plastic!), and having them produced and assembled by hand in the UK are essential personal values. When tallying costs, all of these elements come into question (..it would be much cheaper to produce the game if I removed the design elements, and shipped the production and assembly overseas). However, by engaging with lovely Kickstarter backers, who (hopefully!) see the value in these elements, I won’t have to make those compromises.
Introducing me to your friends would also be a great support!
Design work is 90% completed, and will be completed by the time the campaign finishes. Printers are ready and waiting for final artwork. Below is an expected timeline from now until you receive Lucky Dip Cards in your letter box.
- Sept - Oct: crowd funding / finalising designs
- Oct - Nov: Production and hand assembling game
- Dec: Shipping to you. Merry Christmas!
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
To each and every Kickstarter backer, THANK YOU! Without your support I cannot bring this game to life. I am eternally grateful for your help.
A very big thanks to all my family and friends who have supported and aided my 10 year journey in London. Without this experience, I could not have sampled the vast range of lifes best bits, which lead me to dream up this game.
Special thanks to those who helped me develop this game into the finished product: Janine, Meryl, Martina, Di, Dez, Lauren P, Lauren HL, Rebecca AB, Tash, Sanna, Carolyn, Martine, Sarah V, Cam.
Professional thanks to Cellar Society for introducing me to some of the finest things in life and through working with you, instilling the value in going the extra mile to make an experience unforgettable. To Randomise, for the very open and helpful discussion they had with me sharing their Kickstarter journey.
And to my darling little family, Michael and Harriet, all my love.
Risks and challenges
I am a true Libran by nature! I take a (some would say..painfully) long time considering options and outcomes. I’ve taken every step possible to avoid the following potential issues:
Printing - I have confirmed our printer, and the timeframes of this campaign with them. We have discussed and ruled out issues with larger than expected orders. Chris has produced and shipped a Kickstarter project before, so I am confident in his assessment of timeframes, and ability to produce within the limits.
Designer - We have almost completed all design work and would have done so by the end of the campaign. If successfully backed, we will immediately push the print button. Ryan has committed to finalise artwork with printers and confirm proofs as soon as backed.
December Mailing - The Christmas season always puts a strain on usual delivery times for post. I have timed this campaign and production schedule to complete before the peak grinds the shipping system to a halt. All items are scheduled to be posted the last week of November/first week of December. If any issues put this off track, you will absolutely be informed, and then mailing will be prioritised according early bird backers, then by the time it takes to ship so everyone should receive their cards by Christmas.
