The Book is not dead, and neither is poetry. But that doesn't mean books grow on trees. I need your help to make it a reality!

I am hoping to print my first book of poetry, Leaning Against the Rain, which is a collection of subversive nature poems, poems of woe, and poems dedicated to the imagination and color. Its the culmination of 4 years of writing and a lifetime of experience...and I would really like to print it so I can share it with people (You especially!).

Working Draft of the Cover

The book is pretty much all complete, just a little tweak here and there, and a little cover designing and away we go...to the printer. That is where you come in!

My goal is 2,000 dollars which will help me print a 300 copy first edition. If we make more than that so too will the edition increase: 2,700 dollars would be enough 400, and 3,400 would make a 500 print run possible, which would be super cool!   (...and lets say we get 2,200, then the edition will be 350). This will be the first book of Blue Pear Press, a little publishing outfit where I hope to publish other people's writing in the future.  (Cause with all the experience I've gained in this process I have more than enough to share!)

Also, not only will be it super-rewarding to see this book in print, but I am really looking forward to making all the collages for all of you! And everyone who donates will get there name in the book on a Special Thank You Page for Kickstarters (You).

You can listen to some of the poems here, and take a look at my artwork at AlexNorelliARt.com to get an idea of my creative works. Hope you enjoy!

Thank you for taking a look! Now lets make a book!

Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter

Now I know there has been talk in the media about whether poetry is "Relevant" anymore, or if it can "Change" anything...but I think those are the wrong questions. Poetry is as Revelatory as its always been, and is still imbued with the power to Charge our reality with meaning, just as it always has.

We still value the imagination, don't we? We still value ourselves and our desires to contribute to the great ferment of our world, right? We still want to find new ways of expressing what is common to us all, right? And we still want to create new forms for poetry, to see what poetry can be, so that it doesn't become some dusty old pastime, but rather a daily means to more acutely and creatively experience life, right?

Technology may have changed the means, but the desire to create has made it through unscathed, if not become strengthened by the frenetic energy of our newfangled world.

I've spent the last year mastering all the software essential not only to design the book, but publish it as well. It sure has been a crash course in the art of making a book as well as the culmination of years of learning!

So as for the "Risks and Challenges"...Bring 'em on! There are few things the human imagination can't surmount, when melded with a bit of gumption.
