The beginnings of this recording project are to be found at Celtic Connections in Glasgow's Old Fruitmarket in Feb 2017. There, I played a concert with a hand-picked band to kick off my '70/50 in 2017' year. Following the concert the band joined me at John Cavanagh's Muirend studio to start an album. Many songs were recorded, some backing tracks were recorded and as many extra parts as we had time for were recorded. Revisits were made here'n'there throughout the subsequent year or so until we considered it finished. It contains new songs, old songs and some, dare I say it, sublime collaborations. The recording is done and artwork is underway. We are inviting you to join us in order to raise enough to finish the project to the fullest quality possible. This includes original artwork, mastering, manufacture and launch. The planned release date is July 13th with launch on August 29th. I know it's easy to regard the latest project as the best one but it's true to say that, in this case, it's possibly true. The live-in-the-studio feel to the tracks, the range of songs, the quality of the musicianship and collaborations plus the sound we've succeeded in creating all add up to a timely, special quality.
Risks and challenges
No serious risks to this project exist and there is no apparent reason why the proposed timetables cannot be met. The house concerts will be unlikely to all take place in August but they certainly will be arranged (to mutual satisfaction) during August. They can only be held in UK with these conditions but there's no reason why a separate arrangement can't be made to conduct them outwith the UK.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
