About this project
A modern fairytale.
During the course of one year, Maarten has drawn, painted and animated all the parts for this huge image. Much in the style of painters like Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Hieronymus Bosch, this work shows a horde of gnomes terrorizing all kinds of small harmless creatures.
But this is not an ordinary image. What you are looking at is a moving image that doesn't need electricity, but will come to life as the viewer moves along. The technique is called lenticular printing, which is well known for its use in 3D postcards and simple flip-images. But with BIOSCOPE Maarten studied and stretched the possibilities of lenticular printing to create an animation that is more like a painting... or a painting that is more like an animation?
We are so close to realization! All handdrawn animations for the lenticular print are done and we can start off with an excellent exhibition in june at Animafest in Zagreb, one of the leading animation filmfestivals in the world. It's the perfect place for our experimental 'moving image' to start touring the world.
The only thing that is left to do is the printing. Lenticular print is a costly technique, but with your help, we can finish this unique project.
Maarten Isaäk de Heer has brought more experimental, out-of-the box animation to the world. Check www.maartenisaakdeheer.com
With your help, BIOSCOPE will tour animation-/film, media-art festivals and galleries worldwide.
Crushing big data:
After printing the final image, we will hydraulically crush all digital data. Making it impossible to create a copy. Making the artwork, and the testprints, completely unique editions.
Risks and challenges
From now until the first of june, Maarten will be animating the last bits of BIOSCOPE. As well as the last finetuning in color and compositing.
We will also be building a handy hanging system for the panels to be fixed onto during exhibition. So it can easily be taken apart for travels.
Finally, end of May, we will print the 32 lenticular panels at Lentiprint! in Berlin.
From 5 to 10 june, the work will be shown at ANIMAFEST in Zagreb.
In autumn, all rewards will be cut out from the testmaterial and sent to you. We will contact you then to discuss your wishes.
After that, we expect that, as the rest of Maarten animations, this new work too will tour the world!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
