It's getting pretty exciting around here...
In a couple of weeks, I'll be sending out the first DRM-free Cabal e-books, suitable for viewing on Kindle, Nook, and compatible formats. And shortly after that, I'll be mailing the physical copies. Thanks to my pal Caio Cacau, who exquisitely rendered the cover of the book, and my pal Aaron Rosenberg, who designed both the interior and exterior, it's a really handsome product.
Just so you know, I tinkered with a couple of things. First, I changed the name of the book to Cabal and Other Unlikely Invocations of the Muse. Somehow Irresponsible sounded better when I was designing the campaign than when I actually had to sit down and write the stories. And even I would be surprised by what's in this collection if I hadn't, you know, written it myself--so Unlikely won out.
The other small change is in the selection of stories. I decided to back-burner a couple of them, which weren't meeting my standards, and include a couple of others that inspired me at the last moment. But no worries...stories like "Headless" and "Connections" will probably show up in my next volume of short fiction, as will tales some of you have suggested.
Because I've discovered that I actually love writing short stories, and wonder now why I didn't do more of it over the years.
Anyway, thanks again for helping to make Cabal a reality. Your kindness never ceases to amaze me.
