My love of children, nature, and national parks led me to create Park Smarts For Kids.
Remember your first park experience? Whether it was the awesome majesty of the Grand Canyon... the exquisite beauty of Yosemite... the awe-inspiring accomplishment of Mount Rushmore... the explosive wonder of the Hawaii Volcanoes or the dramatic vistas of Red Rock Canyon... our National Parks are priceless and irreplaceable!
With fun puzzles and education to inspire the adventurous spirit in all of us, Park Smarts For Kids is being created to Educate Kids about our precious National Parks, because the best way to ensure the Preservation and Longevity of these National Treasures are to pass on the love of nature to the next generation.
Most of us probably learned to love the outdoors as kids. Learning about a park before you go there is exciting and gives meaning to the experience before actually being there.
Our goal is to deliver these entertaining and educational books before the holidays and have them in parks by spring! Plus, did you know that this year is the 100th anniversary of our National Park Service? If we're going to make sure they're here for the 200th anniversary, we are going to need future generations to love and care for these special places and it starts with learning the wonders of the outdoors with Park Smart For Kids. Thank you for checking out our project... and I'll see you on the trail!
Park Smarts for Kids series of activity books are packed with 30 pages of crossword puzzles, word search puzzles, connect-the-dot pages, mazes, animal matches and more. There are 6 coloring pages per book. All designed to educate kids on America's National Parks and Monuments. They are very educational, fun, engaging and compelling to help our children learn about our precious National Parks and Monuments.
Each book is designed to support the interpretive message of each park.

We work closely with each Park’s personnel to bring interpretive accurate content to the fun puzzles and coloring pages of every title we create. This collaboration reinforces information the Park promotes about their specific Park. This is a critical process to creating the series to allow for distribution at gift stores managed by the National Park Service. Interpretive approval is required to be sold in those gift stores. There are many privately owned gift stores within and around each of our Parks that do not require this approval. Our extensive experience understanding the various parks’ interpretive viewpoint allows us to sell to these venues while we await the specific park’s approval process. Currently, eight parks have given approval and we are in the approval process for fourteen others.
Creating the book series requires that we work closely with National Park personnel to make certain we are reinforcing the individual park’s message. We research the parks and determine the information that has been published, generally with park executive approvals. We also consult personally with park staff to make certain our content is totally up to date. We then integrate that information into our own creative approach. We forward the rough drafts to the appropriate park interpreters and then exchange feedback until we reach agreement. Then we submit rough drafts of the art and puzzles to the park for their review. Usually we already are on the same page, but occasionally they will make suggestions about content. Once they agree the content is factually correct, we make any creative changes we think necessary, resubmit to the park for their approvals and then go to print. Foreign visitors are major patrons of our parks system and we will be offering the book series in several languages in the near future.
Risks and challenges
There are always challenges and unforeseen obstacles that arise when trying to bring a product to life. There are so many moving parts that must be managed. However we have brought other products to the market, we can confidently say that we are experienced in this process and have developed systems and processes to mitigate the risks that arise in this process. We will work hard to ensure that we deliver what we promise and to go the extra mile whenever it is possible. Thanks for believing in us!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
