The HYSTERIA collective has been working very hard over the past nine months on the eighth issue of the HYSTERIA periodical. Now it’s time to share it with the rest of the world. But we need your help! We need to raise £1500 for printing costs before we can publish it.
HYSTERIA is an international collective striving to spread feminisms through our activism and our annual periodical filled with critical essays, poems, prose, comments, photography, objections, paintings and all other mediums of expression.
Our eighth issue explores the concept of power. Devoted to the critique of women’s subordination and to the intersections between sexism, racism, cis-sexism and class oppression, we have collated more than 150 pages devoted to exploring what power means to feminisms.
How your pledge will empower a movement of feminists
Your pledge today will allow us to spread feminist literature and empower fellow feminists around the world by:
printing 200 copies of our finished eighth issue with inspiring and subversive work from feminists artists, activists and writers.
- sending copies of issue 8 to our stockists in Denmark, Taiwan, Australia, Sweden, Austria, Netherlands, UK and US.
- distributing the HYSTERIA periodical at zine and book fairs across the world.
- allowing the collective to remain an independent and radical periodical, offering a platform for all voices to be heard - not just the loudest.
Last year we successfully raised £1072 which meant that we could print a distribute hundreds of copies of our seventh issue. It was so popular that we’ve now sold out. We want to repeat this success but also further our efforts in becoming self sufficient in the future.
Your pledge will help us get there. Thank you for your support.
Our eighth issue features work by feminist artists, activists and writers. Here's what some of them have to say about HYSTERIA:
Vagittarius Rising is honoured to be an accomplice in the mad & rad workings of the HYSTERIA collective. We are fiercely grateful for the inclusion of our Declaration of the Nation of Vag in the upcoming edition of HYSTERIA's periodical, on the topic of Power. We are inspired to collaborate with HYSTERIA and carry their texts from our library shelves, to our studio floors, to the streets and cuntry roads. Vag Blessings V^V.
It's not often that I feel like literary platforms have the flexibility to simultaneously provide a space for language while letting language maintain its destabilising powers, and HYSTERIA has does just that. Plus, the collective creates dialogue in a time when I think that's one of the most necessary things art can do.
HYSTERIA deals with feminism as a plural, for my artwork I must know that I am working with organisations that understand that feminism is a multiplicity. We (the feminist agenda) are not just one Issue. We are every disenfranchised woman and every man who is trying to overcome their assimilation as a patriarch. We are people who do not have a voice. We are not just ‘us’ we are not just our own interests. We are in-fact the needs that we may not understand, and might never come to understand: yet upholding them is so important for the society we want, that we overcome judgement.
We are inter-sectional, intertextual, techno-sexual. We do not blame the symptoms for how they become represented, even if this is how they present themselves. We delve into a state of what could be but do not deny what is now still embedded. HYSTERIA is a collective of recognition, connection and collaboration, it is a conversation: an opening up to ways of communicating we have not tried before. It is a journey and I am excited to be part of it.
Risks and challenges
Without raising the full amount of £1500, we can't print issue 8. So please pledge your support and share this page with as many as you can. Thank you!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
