Stretch Goal #2 - $50,000 = Live audience!
Look, we're not being greedy here. But we still have a lot of time left, so why not have another goal!
If we reach $50,000 in funding we'll open our three shoot days to a live audience. You'll have a chance to come watch us shoot the show! Woohoo!
We can probably only fit 8 people per taping, so there would likely be a total of about 24 slots.
How is this going to work, Tom? I'm confused.
If we reach 50K, anybody will be able to email us (when we say so) and tell us they're interested in coming to a shoot. We''ll randomly select from those people to fill most of the 24 slots. I say MOST, because if we reach the 50K level we will reserve a few of those slots as rewards for backers at a new level. Those people will be able to guarantee a seat at the tapings.
There are also a few new reward levels in there so take a look!
We met Stretch Goal $35,000
Well, you all are most impressive. Funded in less than two days!
THANK YOU. Lem will eat well once again (Veronica’s cat Devo is safe… for now).
Time for a stretch goal
And since we raised $35,000 we'll be able to do 12 episodes. TWELVE!
We'll also be slipping in a couple of new reward levels as well. Remember, if you see a new reward level you like but you've already backed us, you can switch to the new one!
What's all this, then?
Since 2007, Sword and Laser has been the premiere online Science Fiction and Fantasy book club. 18,000 people are helping spaceship lovers discover the joys of dragons, and vice versa. (Drop in on our Goodreads forum to meet some of them!)
In 2012 we were lucky enough to be invited to do a video version of the show. Like so many things though after the first year the money went elsewhere.
But Lem, our space castle dwelling dragon still slumbers on our set, hungering for more books. We must wake the dragon. With you we can.
We could just do Google Hangouts, and if this Kickstarter doesn't fund, we probably will. But we'd love to do the better-looking, richer, dragon-infested version we did last year.
To do that we need money for studio space, cameras, lights, editing and of course our own time. If you'd like to see Sword and Laser video return in all its Space Castle glory, and you have a little to spare, why not kick in a few bucks. We've gathered some cool rewards for you as well!
If we meet our goal we'll commit to six episodes with six different authors to premiere sometime in 2014. We'll have a stretch goal of more episodes as well. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. We're not traveling at light speed here.
Seriously. Please back us. If not for us, do it for Lem the dragon.
Risks and challenges
What could go wrong? So much. Specifically we need to schedule production time and book author guests and ourselves. That can cause production delays. Hard drives crash and episodes get lost. Perish the thought and we'll take every backup precaution to prevent it, but we're trying to think of everything. Maybe the production house can't find time for us and we have to move the stage. Again, we don't think they will but thinking of disaster scenarios here people. It is California. Earthquakes. Also, the dragon might leave. Unlikely but there you have it.
