About this project
Kayaa is an online platform that will promote the work of emerging visual and performing artists in Nairobi (Kenya), and further expand into the larger African region.
We are developing this platform to change the lives of our local artists. Through their amazing work, artists will gain a global audience and a real chance of make a living though their passion.
This platform will be managed by the artists themselves, meaning, it will give each artist a chance to interact with their audience, receive critics, appreciation and a discussion of their work. Most importantly it will give them an opportunity to put a price to their work while they are at it!
Our goal is to open up Nairobi’s art community by giving more visibility to the artists work and make them accessible to everyone. We literally want to turn our art industry into the multimillion industry that it can be, one artist at a time. I know it seems like a Hercules feat and we cannot do it alone, and that's why we want you to be a part of it as we break ground.
So far the project has been supported by a couple of volunteers who believe in it and have offered their time and skills to make it happen. And now we’d like you to join in. So if you believe in the arts, in celebrating our different cultures through art, in following your passion and nurturing creative talent, support Kayaa and give our local art community this awesome opportunity.
Each of your pledges is appreciated and will bring us one step closer to achieving our grand objectives and most especially, thanks to Kickstarter for believing in our project.
So what exactly is this big idea?
The online platform will create a sense of belonging and a community of like minded individuals who will share and appreciate the art featured in:-
- The Platform
Artists will post their work, give a description of it in their own words, and sell their authentic pieces through an easy, secure and hassle free online payment system. It will be interesting to know that the price of each piece is as the artist intended and not a dime more. Besides, the sense of security in knowing that the artist will get all their hard earned money is will be quite refreshing, don't you agree?
Artists in Dance, Music, Poetry, Theater and other forms of performing arts will have the opportunity to show a preview of their work through videos and photographs, so they can find appreciation and grow a global fan base before, during and after publicly performing their pieces keeping this forms of art well documented and used as a promotional tool to grow the artists.
- Commercial Art
The concept of commercial art is still quite new and not fully embraced by our local artists. We are using the community created by the platform to introduce Giclee printing for the artist featured in Kayaa, which will see more people acquire art that would otherwise be out of their budget range, while still fully compensating the artists for their great work. With such a sustainable cycle, not only will contemporary and traditional art grow but so will the chance of owning a piece of our culture, wherever you are.
What will our pledges be used for?
- The bulk of your pledges will go into further developing the platform making it secure, create an easy to use interface that will display the artworks exceptionally as well as its maintenance, since this is the backbone of the project. We will also be able to appreciate the great work our volunteers have done thus far.
- Creating awareness of the platform and its benefits to artists, through workshops, field visits and open forums with an aim of reaching as many artists as possible and subsequent developmental workshops.
- Purchasing equipment and supplies for commercial production of high quality Giclee prints and professional mounting equipment.
One more thing though, whats in it for me? :)
We are super grateful to everyone who will pledge and we want to show you our appreciation with the rewards we've prepared.
