About this project
SynergyZine Art and Literary magazine was founded by two poets, Michael Warren Grant and Rickey Lee Bauman, who's love of writing and long friendship naturally led to the creation of a writing and art based community. The magazine has been in print since 2007, publishing 8 editions over these five years that have ranged the gamut from "Sex and Death" to "Wanderlust".
Please check out our last edition, "PORTRAITS" online here for FREE:
Our major commitment is to keeping the printed book alive, even as more magazines move online to save print costs - hence the point of this kickstarter. Bay Area art and poetry need to be represented in print, and our commitment is to making that happen!
Our latest edition, "Portraits", was being finished as we made this video, and our upcoming 9th release, "Ragabash" will be a rousing social-satire edition that would make both Oscar Wilde and Jon Steward proud. Given that we decided a long time ago that we will never become merely another web-zine, we're asking for help in publishing a good old fashioned, fresh off the press magazine. As lovers of the page, you'll know that there is nothing more romantic than holding a book in your hands, be it weathered or new, smelling the pages and letting the words or pictures pop from the page into life....
...but printing is expensive, even in the modern age, especially when you refuse to sacrifice quality of image or resort to including advertisements. Did we mention that SynergyZine has always, and always will be, advertisement free?
And hence, this kickstarter project launches to provide us with the necessary backing to a) Fund the printing of our upcoming satirical edition Ragabash, b) b) fund the continued expansion of our website and online presence, c) to provide us with operational funds to begin the tenth issue and lastly, d) to rent space for our release parties without having to nickle and dime our guests!
Amidst a sea of hip and cutting edge 'zines and magazines, SynergyZine attempts to stay true to the classical (and classy!) standards of antiquity, while tackling the thought provoking issues of the modern era. Help us keep the printed book alive and in your hands by supporting us in our endeavors!
A brief note on our video: Between when we made this video and are now (finally!) launching this kickstarter campaign, we ended up publishing our 8th edition, "Portraits", thanks to the good will of our printers. The video mentions that this is our current upcoming project, however as it is already birthed into the world, funds raised here will focus on our upcoming satire edition, website expansion and operating funds for our TBD tenth edition! Thanks for your support!
Big shout out to Nicole Salmeri for making our video!
