Finishing up at the Factory: Production Update 12

A good evening to all you residents of Gloomhaven!

It's getting late on Friday night, but at least the update isn't coming Monday. This bi-weekly schedule always seems to fall on inopportune times. I am actually in New York right now, enjoying a small vacation that my wife scheduled when we all thought this project was going to be long behind us by the time December rolled around.

It isn't, of course, but I'm still enjoying myself. And, more importantly, we are getting ever-closer to the project coming to fruition. In case you didn't see the post on BGG a couple days ago, I've gotten word from the factory that everything will be assembled and completed by next Monday (the 12th).

After that, I'll confirm the final production samples, and then we're off to the high seas to begin the freight shipping process. Barring any delays with that (which are, of course, a possibility), it should take about a month and a half to get most people their games after that, which puts us at the tail end of January. It may be a little later for Europe because the boat takes longer, but still, we're getting there!

So, once again I'm going to put the call out that if you need to change your address, you should do it as soon as possible. I know the surveys went out a long time ago, and it is perfectly reasonable that you have moved since then. It's not a problem! Address edits are still open on the surveys, so follow these steps:

  • 1. Open the Kickstarter page on a non-mobile device with a legitimate web browser.
  • 2. Click on the blue "View Pledge" button at the top right of the Gloomhaven page.
  • 3. Click on the "Survey" tab from the menu that pops up.
  • 4. Click on "Edit Address."
  • 5. Edit your address.
  • 6. Don't message me about it. I mean, you can if you want, I guess, but I can't help you edit your address more than I just did. Because address edits are open for you, that means I can't edit them myself. It's up to you get your address correct!

All right, cool, so now that that is settled, what other updates can I give you? It has been fairly uneventful the last two weeks. I did get pictures of the actual physical insert and not just schematics, so I can show you that:

And, like, I said last week, this insert doesn't provide space to sleeve all the cards - we just couldn't make that happen - but it does provide space to sleeve cards that are shuffled often (monster ability cards, battle goals, and attack modifier cards).

We also finalized how each game will be packed for shipment, which was an interesting process. It wasn't a big deal with my first game, Forge War, but obviously Gloomhaven is a lot more complicated, and so required a much more precise process. Everything is looking good, though! I think people will be pleased when they crack open the box!

Lastly, there was another fairly big announcement on BGG in the last two weeks that is semi-pertinent to this project. My next board game project, Founders of Gloomhaven, has an official entry on BGG. It's a completely stand-alone competitive Euro game, but it's set in the same world, so I thought it might be interesting to you if only for the fact that you can go see more of Alexandr's beautiful artwork that really brings to life the world that you will soon be exploring.

Anyway, that's all I have to say. Remember, update your address if you need to, and I'll talk to you next time!

I am very pleased with how the prototype insert looks. I know you must still test it to ensure everything fits, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.

@the "must sleeve all the cards" people -- my understanding is that the insert can't accommodate for all cards being sleeved, because that would simply make the cards too big to fit in the box (without going for several-storey storage, that is). It's not an issue of anybody having been too lazy, it's an issue of this game already being super huge without sleeves.
It would also make the insert unuseable for (I assume) the majority of players who are NOT going to sleeve all the cards -- with this number of cards, the difference between the thickness of the card stacks with or without sleeves is so significant that unsleeved cards would just rattle around in an otherwise mostly empty insert.
I sleeve many of my card games, but I am always of the opinion that the game should be useable as it comes -- if there is extra space to accommodate sleeves, that is nice, but the insert should be useable first and foremost for the game as it is delivered.

Thanks for the specifics in how to change your address, I'm finally moving in the next week or two, this is the first time I'm using my new address. Yay!

If/When you make a new kickstarter project, be sure to drop an update in here for it, to let us all know ahead of time. This project has been run well, I wouldn't be afraid of backing something else by you that tickles my fancy.

I with you Erick. I am an all or none kinda guy with sleeves.

You must be happy this is all getting finally done! While I myself am quite happy to be on the verge of receiving all this labour of love, I am still kinda mad for the lazy people who didnt take the tine to adress your issue/concerns with the box inserts, as because of them, I cant sleeve ALL my cards with the insert, which makes the insert for me a no go=(((((((. I know, I might be in the minority, but I can t stand not having my cards sleeved, as I always want to keep my fames in pristinoe condition. I am now hopeful a solutoon might come out from an Insert company to remedy this. Have you contacted any of them to make this happen mayne? Still, thanks for the update and the hard work!

If it won't hold sleeved cards it's going to be chucked in the bin anyway, so as long as the insert protects the game in transit, that's my only concern!

I am very much excited to receive Gloomhaven though - I am hoping it will cure my fear of Legacy games!

Cool! This has probably been asked before but how many sleeves requires for the regularly shuffled cards?

@XD I think it's safe to assume mini bundles share the same timetable. Should be using same boats etc.

    19. Isaac Childres 4-time creator on

Same timetable as everyone else. All of it is shipping together.

So, question: What is the shipping timetable(ish) for those of us who only pledged for minis?
