Giant Boxes of Stuff: Production Update 10
Hello residents of Gloomhaven!
Wow, it feels like it has been ages since the last update. I guess the whole world feels completely different now that I have a real-live box of Gloomhaven in my home.
There was pre-Gloomhaven, and post-Gloomhaven, and I am now living in a post-Gloomhaven existence. I'm sorry that the rest of you won't get to experience the epochal shift until January.
But other than that, what's the news? Well, I made an unboxing video to show you all the stuff in the box.
Sorry that my recording equipment isn't the best, but I think it does a good job of giving you the full scope of the box contents.
There was also a lovely video with much higher production quality done by Man vs. Meeple. I got to hang out with Jeremy and David on Saturday to talk Gloomhaven, and it turned out pretty well!
As for specific production updates, we are reprinting the character tuck boxes to decrease their width. I received some samples of these earlier in the week, and I think the new size is great. They take up less space in the box, which is definitely useful, and all the components inside the tuck box fit more snugly, which helps keep the box from getting crushed for whatever reason.
We also spent a lot of time coming up with the best possible solution to the HP and XP tracker problem, given our limitations with the manufacturing equipment and what was already printed on the boards. We end up shrinking the width a bit and cutting teeth into the sides of the track, which help significantly in keeping the trackers in place.
It's not a perfect solution, but it's the best we can do at this point, and I think it works pretty well.
We're also working on the insert. I received some images of the first iteration last night, and it, well, needed a lot of work. We'll put the work in, though, and hopefully I can have a lot more to tell you about it in the next update.
Paul Grogan also assures me that he'll have the instructional videos ready by the time the game arrives to Kickstarter backers, but it looks to me like he's spending more time just playing the copy of the game I gave him to shoot the video with. I guess he's just enjoying living in a post-Gloomhaven world, too, which I can't fault him for.
The other big news is that I will be at BGG Con in two weeks, and I am looking forward to hanging out with all the cool people there, including any of you who will be coming. I'll also be bringing the giant Gloomhaven box with me, so if you wanted to play the game and take in its full majesty, send me a Kickstarter message. I'll be scheduling a handful of demo events throughout the convention, probably hosted at the Bob's Weekend Wonders booth (#828 at the back of the Aviators Hall). Even when I won't be running demos, you'll still be able to find the game box at Bob's booth, so you can go by and ogle it any time.
Lastly, I just want to assure everyone that you will be getting your copies before Gloomhaven hits retail. I've gotten a few emails from people concerned that various retailers were listing the release date as December. This is because I sent out the sell sheet before we hit the latest delays. I've since updated the retail release to February, but some retailers are slow to make the update on their end.
Okay, cool. Lots of exciting stuff. I hope you are all looking forward to living your life post-Gloomhaven, and I'll see you at BGG Con!
