Proofs and Conventions: Production Update 3

Hello residents of Gloomhaven!

Apparently I promised a more exciting update at the end of the last one, so I'll try to deliver on that.

So first of all, I got a hold of the new set of miniatures when I got home from vacation, and they still look great. All of the mistakes from the last batch were (eventually) fixed, so we are moving forward with that. The miniatures no longer have the potential to delay us, so that's good news!

Here is a picture of the minis for the six starting classes:

If you want to see more detail on them, you can check out the image on BoardGameGeek. You will also notice an image on BoardGameGeek of those six miniatures painted, which I think is pretty cool.

The painting was done by Jason Frowde of Painting Knights, and If you want to see these miniatures up close and personal, you can stop on by the Cephalofair Games booth at GenCon next week – #2963, all the way in the back corner. I'll be running Gloomhaven demos all weekend using a custom scenario that you won't find in the scenario book. Mainly because it's designed to only take an hour and is actually kind of easy. Stop by and say "Hi!"

The painted miniatures will then be stowed away in Paul Grogan's suitcase, to be used in the Gaming Rules! overview video he's working on, as well.

The other important news of the last few weeks is that I finally got my hands on the proofs. They were just delivered today, so Josh and I haven't had a chance to pore over them yet, but that will be happening tomorrow.

It may take a while.

Five giant rolls of print-outs as tall as my dishwasher. By comparison, my last game, Forge War, had about one of those rolls in proofs.

I can't speak to them now, but I will post an update in the comments on Sunday about the status of the proofing after Josh and I have had a chance to go over everything.

So, things are moving along. Of course I'm sad that the game turned out to not be ready in time for GenCon, but that's okay. I still plan on having a good time at the con, and I hope to see you there!

      Everything is looking great!
I am sure that when Gloomhaven arrives, it will have been worth the wait! (Sadly I will not be there to open the package myself due to a stay abroad for several months, but I will have my partner show me videos!)
And, again as a happy standee backer, the minis look very good! (Any chance we can get a picture of the standee design, btw? No worries if not, though.)

      @Isaac, that's great to hear!
Thanks for keeping us updated with the progress. It's always a treat reading you updates!
Hope everything goes well on Gencon, I'm looking forward to seeing some game play videos.

Yes, the demos are just at the booth. I'm not running any events this year. Just come by and jump in. If there turns out to be a lot of demand, I may create a sign-up sheet, but you'll still need to come by the booth to interact with that.

Isaac, are you doing demos at your booth at Gencon or is it something we need to sign up for?

Josh and I went over the proofs last night. It took a long while, but overall it went pretty well. We found a few mistakes we made and resolved a lot of things that we felt could have been visually represented better (it helps when everything is right in front of you. This is stuff like the size of some of the standees relative to each other, the ordering of the monster cards in the packaged decks, some of the presentation of the scenario book, etc. We're changing a lot of the files, but that was inevitable, and I don't think it is going to slow down the process all that much. Printing should be starting soon!

Sure, I could post the scenario on BGG. We'll see how it goes. The first demoers are going to be my play testers.

Those miniatures look fantastic. So glad I backed the miniature version. Thanks for all those updates, this is a role-model Kickstarter.

Yes, please release this short intro scenario. It'll be much easier to teach the game with a one-off game like this. Maybe someone could also include it into Tabletop Simulator?

I can't wait to paint those figures. They just look so good, nice and sharp.

      Thanks for the update!

And is there any chance that custom scenario might become publicly available even if it doesn't wind up in the book? A relatively short session outside of a campaign sounds like a convenient way to get more people to try Gloomhaven out.
