Business as Usual: Post-Kickstarter week 17

Posted by Isaac Childres (Creator)

Hello again residents of Gloomhaven!

I must admit, when we first concluded this project, I did not foresee continuing to give you weekly updates moving into February. Obviously the original plan was to be done with pre-production stuff by now, at which point we'd move into a more infrequent update schedule.

But we're still working on game content, so I'm still here to tell you about it!

So what are we working on? Well, Alexandr is working on the last batch of item artwork, so his role will soon be finished (more than a year after I first contacted him about working on the project no less!).

Alvaro is finishing up the last batch of room tiles, at which point he'll get started on the overlay tiles, which shouldn't take too much additional time.

Jim, our editor, has gone through the rule book with a dedicated eye and will soon be moving on to the cards.

Josh is pushing me to get a solid draft of the rule book for him to start laying out, so I guess it's a good thing Jim finished the edits.

And me, well, I'm driving this massive ship while trying to finish writing scenarios and get them play tested.

From a production stand point, things are looking pretty good. In case you weren't aware, the Chinese New Year is next Monday, which means that no factory stuff will be getting done starting about Wednesday and continuing for about 2 weeks after that.

Hopefully we'll be able to get a white box copy finished and sent out before that point so we can start working on space and insert issues, and then once the Chinese New Year hiatus is over, we'll immediately start getting to work on making the official miniature molds.

So, yeah, if everything goes well and we continue to work hard, we'll get everything finished up in the next month and move forward with production. I am planning on sending out surveys at the end of next month. I've been getting a few questions about them, so I just wanted to go over it really quick.

End of February surveys will be going out. At that time, there will be an option to increase your pledge to get additional copies or change your order. The exact details on how that will be done will be in the survey. Even after you've completed your survey, address changes will still be open through Kickstarter until we actually ship the game out, so you won't need to worry too much about that.

I think that's about all I wanted to cover this week. Have a great weekend and I'll see you next time!

Kristian, the standees will have one of two base colors depending on whether they are elite or normal, but they will all be the same size.

@Josh McDowell - That sounds really good. It's starting to become something of a bad habit among kickstarter projects. if its a 4-7 page rulebook you are prob fine. When it's 50 and you forgot about how 1 thing worked then you're in trouble. A certain miniature skirmish game is prob the worst culprits of all which im so very glad i didnt invest in.

      Anyhow. Really nice to hear.

Another thing. Will the monsters in this game all have the same bases? I'm thinking about merging the minis from descent into it as where it's possible.

@Kristian - the last draft of the rule book I received from Isaac has an Index. I plan on putting it into the final rule book.

Isaac. Im not sure if you mention it in a previous patch but an index in the rulebook would be much aprreciated since i asume there will be lots of checking the first plays.
And since this game is so big the rulebook will most likely be quite long and not having a way to look things up in a fast manner slows down play time considerly.

I am mesmerized by the art - the falcon staff and room of shattered remains are fantastic. Your commentary on driving this massive ship makes me chuckle - I know what it is to be both leading and developing. But we heartily appreciate this amazing work of boardgaming art which you and your team are crafting. There - now get back to work ;)

This all looks quite cool, but - and I don't want to paint everything black on purpose - at this moment I don't believe we'll receive this game in 2016. But here's to hoping!

I'm loving the beautiful tile art. Thanks for keeping up updated, as well as your attention to detail in rule and scenario development. I love the quality of your work and am really excited about the depth and richness of this game. Play testing the scenarios makes all the difference between padding and actual play value! Thanks for making this awesome!

it amazed me how "smaller" company seem to be better at shipping estimate or at least at communications...
seem that summer 2016 for ETA is a decent estimate...
      I`m LOVING this tiles...

      thanks for updates :)
