Pre-orders and post-Kickstarter

Posted by Isaac Childres (Creator)

Hello residents of Gloomhaven!

Now that we're not in the whirlwind of the Kickstarter, it feels like it's been ages since I've talked to you. I guess it's only been 2 days, though.

Anyway, the first thing I'd like to talk about is pre-orders. I know it doesn't directly pertain to backers, but I'd like to briefly address people who come across the project with the intent of pre-ordering the game:

Hello, how are you? Pre-ordering the game is very simple. Just click on the "Pre-order!" button to the right of the video at the top of the page. For the next week, the pre-order will get you the exact same game as the Kickstarter at the exact same price delivered at the exact same time. This time is for the people who can't / don't use Kickstarter for whatever reason to get in on the project with no down-side.

It's as simple as that, and we welcome you aboard.

Okay cool. Now I'd like to address people concerned about surveys and upping their pledge to get more stuff:

Hello, yes, I am doing well. As long as you have pledged some amount of money to the campaign, there's no need to worry. When the project is ready to go to print (i.e. December or January), a survey will be sent out. On the survey you can specify any additional purchases you'd like to make or changes to your original pledge and there will be instructions on how to send the money difference through Kickstarter to me.

The surveys won't go out for a few months, but in the mean time, there is absolutely no need to worry about it.

All right, great, now that that's over, what else is there to say? Over the next week I'll give you all an update every couple days about the state of the pre-order sales, and then after that I'll send out an update once a week on the general progress we've all been making.

Full disclosure: I didn't make any progress over the last two days. I binge-watched The Walking Dead and avoided eating any more pie.

Or, right, you'd probably rather hear about pre-order numbers. Over the last two days, we've done another $6,193 in pre-order sales, bringing the grand total to $392,297, which is pretty great! In two days, we've halved again the distance to $400,000.

So that's all there is to say for now. Expect a lot more updates from me in the coming months!

Thanks for the reply Issac. I'm not even sure yet, I would want to see pics of the standees first. If it helps, I would be fine just getting the box with the standees but still keep the pledge at the higher price, that way you don't have to worry about refunding me the difference.

@Isaac - I wouldn't worry about downgrades: As I'll have already paid for the game by the time the survey comes out, I'm sure that I'll be able to persuade myself to *upgrade* to minis at survey time :) I'd be surprised if I was the only one.

Alex, I'd prefer to not do downgrade adjustment, since it is a headache for me, but is possible if necessary.

Turek, if you're already in the system with a $1, just wait for the surveys.

Everyone else, really? It's not exclusive. Stop being silly.

Future headline: "Game designer hospitalized in a coma after pie eating contest. When awakes, has lost memory of plans for game."

Help keep this from happening. Enough already about pies.

    5. Rogue Process

Actually I think the pie eating contest fits great in the world - even though the place is called Gloomhaven it doesn't mean the inhabitants don't kick back and have fun like other societies! :) The box cover shows bunting hanging across the street, mugs of ale outside The Sleeping Lion, food and goods merchants, a small creature (Vermling?) playing cards or telling fortunes.

The event could be a pie eating competition held at The Sleeping Lion (possibly born from drunken bragging) or a sideshow at a travelling faire. As it says in the opening line of Scenario One, "Everyone needs to eat"...

So we are back to square one discussing about KS-exclusives?xD
Since Isaac is against it, I doubt that the event will become an exclusive.

The event can be kind of "confusing" though, since a pie eating contest does not fit into the theme and non-backers won't understand the meaning behind it or just think that it's unnecessary.

Yeah one KS exclusive won't hurt. One that has none or a marginal effect only on the game .... where well, you eat pie. Or you do a pie contest, and the one who wins (either by dice or in real live, which you can vote for first) would gain a title and something like a discount on items of 1 unit of the smallest currency :p or whatever.

    8. Tetora on

Help me out guys I'm still half asleep - we are getting the pie event as exclusive?

    9. Pledgedropper on

So if now I have pledge of 1$ I can pay for 5 games when survey will be sent?
Or is it better to preorder now?

    10. chang on

yea, no exclusive.. and that say...

      ok... /breath
@isaac LOVED that full disclosure comment lol

I read "like to make changes to your original pledge" to mean that in the survey we can downgrade the pledge?

I ask because I pledged for the game box with the hero mini's and am now considering getting the game box with the hero standees instead.

Not exclusive... just darn confusing for anyone else.
