A grand weekend

Posted by Isaac Childres (Creator)

Greetings residents of Gloomhaven!

You have all continued to be dauntless champions and destroyed yet another stretch goal! Just knocked it down like it was nothing. Now it's just lying there on the floor, promising to give all your character classes three more available perks as long as you don't hurt it anymore.

Which seems reasonable to me. There are plenty of other stretch goals to bully into submission.

I'm preparing to head downstairs and demo Gloomhaven all day, so I'll try not to go on too long.

Tabletop Zen

First of all, I finally managed to put together another scenario for you to try out over on Tabletop Zen. Just select "Scenario 2" from the layout dropdown menu when you're creating a table and that should get you to the right place.

This scenario is significantly more complex and challenging than the first scenario, so i'd really only recommend trying it out if you've already played the first scenario and are familiar with at least one of the classes.

Plus there are higher level ability cards, class-specific attack modifiers and a wide selection of items, which all encourages you to level up your character before you start the scenario. This is all explained on the first page of the PDF you can download from the game lobby. It also tells you how to set up the scenario enemies, so definitely look at that or there will be much confusion.

Lastly, I'm aware it's another "kill everything in the dungeon" scenario. I promise there are other objectives. I just felt this was a good scenario to use to demonstrate some more complicated enemies and elemental effects.

Let's see, and finally I think you need a little more information about the starting class coming up at $300,000. You did knock down another stretch goal after all, so I will let you know that it is a Vermling.

Have a grand weekend!

@Isaac: are you going to upload a pdf with the needed map tiles (and possibly the new attack cards) to try this mission in our own real gameboards?
I love to play the first mission time after time and it would be really cool to try this different mission.
I can't wait to have the final game in my own hands! It looks really cool!

@Marty: Brandon has the right of it. Isaac "spoiled" a starting character, which isn't really a spoiler at all. People not looking at the spoilers page wouldn't know that we had already gotten one (a Vermling) as one of the secret unlockable characters, thus my warning on not spoiling those people.

At GrandCon eh Isaac? I have a buddy there this weekend, seems like a good time.

@Marty, I think Duncan was referring to Jardenas saying "Another Vermling", thus implying there is already one that is a character.

    6. Jeroen Paardekooper Overman on

Yay a Vermling! Those funny looking cats with bird's feet are my favourite race! I'm hoping the class is a scavenger of some sorts...

    7. Marty McFly on

@Duncan - actually Isaac did the spoiling. The update comes right out and tells us the new class' race.

@Jeremy and Jardanes: Careful what you say in the comments, there are plenty of folk who don't want to be spoiled about the unlockable characters, and will (rightly so) give you grief for it. Even so much as mentioning what race they are is a no-go.

Jason, sorry, but it's still up to 4 players.

So with the extra starting characters is there a chance we may have an option to play with 5 or 6 players?

    11. Jeremy Kaemmer on

I knew it would be a Vermling! Lemme guess: if we make 350k we get another Harrower? 2 classes per race would be pretty slick :)

    12. Isaac Childres 4-time creator on

Ionas, no, actually perks are pretty easy to balance.

    13. Jardanes

Another Vermling? I hope this one is a wolfrider.

    14. Marty McFly on

An additional starting character?! Happy birthday to me!

    15. ionas on

Ah I see the perks now. Nice, but hard to balance? not?
