When I first entered the solar charger industry over four years ago, one of the first things I learned was that all the solar chargers on the market had a huge problem: they’d stop charging if you took them out of direct sunlight. It didn't matter if you were driving through a tunnel or passing under a cloud: every solar charger I tested would disconnect from the device if it was brought into the shade and not resume charging. The manufacturers all gave me the same solution: disconnect the charging cable, then reconnect to restart the charging process. Although inconvenient, it worked – up until the next time you passed under a cloud. So….
I looked for solutions, but as it turned out, the technology to fix the problem didn't exist – so I decided to develop it. From using solar chargers of all kinds, I've come to recognize some of their other shortcomings, like the fact that they don’t work well with Apple’s iPhone, iPod, and iPad. I've done my best to solve the problems that have kept solar chargers from being as reliable and convenient as they should be, and now, I need your help to realize all mine and my teams hard work.
After four years of research and development, I’m proud to introduce the StrongVolt SmartCharger. Using our advanced patent-pending SunTrack technology, the solar charger automatically reconnects after passing under clouds or shade and is specifically designed for iDevice compatibility.
Other solar chargers require you to manually unplug and re-plug your device after passing under shade – frustrating, inconvenient, and impractical. The StrongVolt SmartCharger with SunTrack Technology is smart enough to power off when you’re in the shade and automatically reconnect to your device once you’re back in the sun.
2) Device Selection
The StrongVolt SmartCharger will automatically output the right amount of power to your device. All you have to do is choose the type of device you want to charge using the integrated switch.
3) LED Power Indicator
The StrongVolt SmartCharger provides instant visual feedback via two LED lights. Red means there’s not enough sun to efficiently charge your device; green means you’re good to go. No other charger on the market has a feature like this.
4) Apple Compatibility
Apple iDevices such as iPods, iPhones and iPads are notorious for not working with existing solar chargers because they require a constant and stable power source. The StrongVolt SmartCharger’s SunTrack technology was specifically developed to eliminate the “charger not supported” issue plaguing iDevices.

Ian Sells Founder, StrongVolt. Ian is in charge of day-to-day operations at StrongVolt and runs the logistics and sales side of the operation. Ian started StrongVolt over 4 years ago during a sourcing trip to China. One of the biggest problems he faced overseas was cell phone batteries dying due to all the emails, calls, and pictures he was taking. Walking the massive trade show floors, sifting through tons of gadgets and products, he stumbled upon a company that was offering big, bulky laptop solar chargers for personal power. These products were the first Ian had ever seen of this type. After doing some research at the hotel later, he realized that he’d stumbled upon an untapped market that was ready to explode.
The next few months he started to sell these solar chargers and quickly realized all the problems affecting solar chargers on the marketplace. Seeing the potential of this portable power market, he started investing more time and money to find ways to create better chargers, that would overcome the limitations of today’s units. After teaming up with Frank Wang, they were able to create the most advanced charging chip on the market today.
Frank Wang, Engineer and Lead Advisor. Frank is one of StrongVolt’s key advisors and it’s main electrical engineering consultant. Frank has over 15 years experience in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering. He also has years of experience dealing with Chinese manufacturers and has been instrumental in helping to create the circuitry and software that enables the SunTrack Technology.
Now that we've accomplished my goal of creating the ultimate solar charger, I need to raise the capital to make my vision a reality. I need $10,000 to finish the molds and produce the first run of SmartChargers with SunTrack Technology. This is why I need your support!

International Backers- Do I have to pay for multiple shipping charges if I want more than one sized charger?
Nope! Only one shipping fee no mater how many chargers you want.
We've been getting asked this a lot, simply add the amount equal to the second (or third, or fourth) charger you want to your pledge, and then when we send out the post-Kickstarter shipping survey, please note what size chargers you want. (International backers only need to pay the shipping for the first charger they back, each other charger ships for free!)
We can answer your question with another question- does your electronic device charge from a USB port or USB wall charger? (like the ones found on computers) If so it will work with our SmartChargers.
